The Open House will run trom 3:lSp.m. until 5:OOp.m. and food and refreshments will be offered as part -of the celebration., Guidance and Career teach- es students about self-aware- ness, decision making, commu- nication, and other skills that could be usefufl for the future schooling and careers of stu- dents. The centre encourages students to take opportunities in becoming involved in co-op placements, voluniteer work, and future planning. in the past, the Guidance and Career Centers were in separate and smnall locations within the school. What was once the large upper library is now the new larger, combined centre. Additional computers have been added to the centre allowing more students intemnet access to secondary school information and career explor- ing. Financial planning book- lets, Co-op placements boards and information, video libraries, information about scholarships for secondary schooling, summer opportunity boards, apprenticeship opportu- nities, portfolio and career planning, and more are offered through the Guidance & Career Centre at Clarke High School. The new combined centre is a qtresource facility for future planniing and exploring." Clarke High School wants the whole community to take advantage of the combined facility and hopes that other schools, such as the Pines Senior Public School will be able to profit from it as well. Resuits of, the group activity are displayed ti the front entrance. Junior divisions viewed a video tape on Canada and completed a quiz. SCHOOL ACTIVTIES! EXCURSIONS On Thursday, February 25th, our Grade 1 classes went to the Safety Village. On Wednesday, Mardi 3rd, Grade 5 and 6 students werit to the Science Centre to participate in a simulation trip to Mars. After Mardi break, we will1 be having a lunch hour Broomnbail House League. As part of the social stid- tes curriculum on the leveis of goverriment, Mr. Dupuis' Grade 5 ciass held an elec- tion on Friday, February 26th. There were tbre candi- dates: Kyle Ritchie, Emma Lunri and Brlittany McDonnell. The candidates had to maake a speech and present it to the class. They leamied iow to use a ballot box and a voter's screen. They had a poli officer and a ballot counter. In the speeche~s, tliey talked about taxes, school uniforms and how Canada lias diffrent economnic levels. They settled on a dress code instead of uniforms.
