Malowney Director of Education Angela Lloyd Chairprson of the Board Places l've Done Tîme By: Clifford Francis T he Leprechauns Today is St. Patrick's Day memories from over the years. Green everything;, parties, beer and green around the gis from too mucli drink. 1One particular March I 7th, 1 came home from somewhere I probably should flot have been, and saw two ittie fellows sit- ting at my kitchen table drink- ing beer, so 1 joined them. These little fellows were Leprechauns, and had been over from Ireland for only a short time. I had been dating one of their older sisters and they hiad corne to see her, and meet me. They both resem-bled her in some ways, but she was much taller. They explained that only men were Leprechauns. We talked about the luck of the Irish and the pot of gold at the e-nd of the rainbow, the potatoe famine and the 'Black Donnelly's' from up Lucan way. These boys hiad come from Tyrone County in Ireland, that was where my ancestors, the Campbells came from. In fact they knew some of my rela- tives over there.- After a while the talk got round to their sister Kathleen. 1 had to tell them there was no pot-of-gold at the end of the rainbow and that when Kathleen lefi, there was neither port nor window to throw it out of. Kathleen had said there was no one better than me, but after a short time she said she was better off alone. 1 don't know why she complained because she was alone most of the time; I was usually off drinking or racing horses or hiunting mar- mutes up northi. (1 don't know why 1 went up north to hunt them, there were lots on the Damneara Ranch. We each had several more glasses of Green Ale and Irish Whiîskey and turned in for the night. When 1 awoke in the morning they were gone. The Leprechauns left me a note and several shamrocks for luck. It certainly has helped. 1 now have an 8 year old girl Leprechaun. She is a bit oversized, but I love her any- way. JOSEPHl B.
