Wednesday, February 25, 2009 Orono Weekly Times - 3 Body of Orono man pulled from fire The house at 3767 Concession Road 4, Orono, was completely engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived on the scene of a fire at approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17. Emergency staff removed the body of the lone resident of the home, 86-year-old Heinz Luedtke, from the burning home. According to Durham Regional Police Media Relations Officer, Sergeant Nancy van Rooy, police have determined the fire was arson, and they are not looking for a suspect. Damage to the frame structure home is estimated at $175,000, according to Clarington Fire Chief Gord Weir. Three vehicle collision closes Hwy 115/35 A three vehicle collision closed the southbound lanes of Highway 115/35 for several hours last Friday morning. The accident occurred just south of the 115/35 junction shortly before 8 a.m. Road conditions were reported to be icy at the time. Fire Department staff extricated one person from a vehicle who was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto with serious injuries. Three other people were taken to local hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries. By 9:30 a.m., the northbound lanes were re-opened, and by 1 p.m. the right lane of the southbound corridor was opened. Traffic was re-routed to Concession Road 8 during the closure.
