Wednesday, March 25, 2009 Orono Weekly Times - 9 The Reel Thing Movie Reviews by: Sharon McCartney I had an interesting phone call this week. It was from a gentleman by the name of Dylan Childs. He is a screenplay writer / actor, who is wanting to tape a short film in our own Orono Town Hall. I found it really great because he is part of a young group of Ontario-born actors, directors, and screenplay writers. Bravo Fact is producing it and they will grace our town in May. The name of the film is Vaude - a- villains and the group Revival Dear will be performing in the film (to hear them go to iTunes). They will be looking for extras, all ages and sizes. To find out more about that go to www.thats thespot.com. I can hardly wait! This week, I went to see Knowing starring Nicolas Cage. I was very entertained. It was exciting from start to finish. The noise level is off the chart. To quote Spinal Tap, "It goes to eleven man." The acting was very good. It starts out in 1959 with a time capsule, and then goes to present day, where the time capsule is dug up and his son gets this list of numbers. Nicolas sets out to find out what the numbers mean. It is suspense with a bit of thriller mixed in. Nicolas Cage is a veteran actor who has paid his dues. He was born Nicholas Kim Coppola, nephew to Francis Ford Coppola. (He changed his name to make his own way. Cage comes from comic book character Luke Cage.) He made his film debut in Valley Girl. He is a comic book buff and named his kids after comic book characters. He got Johnny Depp his first acting job, and was once married to Lisa Marie Presley. Some of his films include National Treasure, Cotton Club, Ghost Rider, Windtalkers, Gone in 60 Seconds, and my favorite Moonstruck. John Reid, representing a group of area citizens working to save services at the Bowmanville Hospital, asked Council for its support in closing the road in front of the Bowmanville Town Hall for Sunday's rally. The group also asked for the use of municipal tents, tables, chairs, a microphone and power supply, and photo copying services to make copies of their petition for the Provincial Health Rev. Reid listed the members of his group which included Mayor Jim Abernethy. He explained that Abernethy's position in the group was as a concerned citizen, not as the Mayor. "We have to be clear, this is not a political rally, this is a show of support by our community for our hospital," Abernethy said. Councillor Mary Novak asked whether the Ontario Health Coalition would be invited to the rally, because they were at Thursday night's Town Hall Meeting at the Beech Centre handing out anti-government stickers. "The Ontario Health Coalition had a specific message for last weeks' meeting," Dr. Stone said, "They are not part of this rally." Council instructed the CAO, Mr. Frank Wu, to take all actions necessary to support the rally. Reid also requested that the Mayor send written invitations to a number of provincial government representatives. The rally will be held in front of the Bowamnville Town Hall at 40 Temperance Street, on Sunday, March 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. St. George's - Newcastle 250 Mill St. S. · 905-987-2019 8 a.m. - Holy Communion 11:15 a.m. - Worship, Sunday School Holy Communion 1st & 3rd Sunday Morning Prayer 2nd & 4th Sunday Coffee and Fellowship to follow St. Saviour's - Orono 27 Mill Street · 905-987-2019 9:30 a.m. - Worship, Sunday School, Youth Group Holy Communion - 1st & 3rd Sunday Morning Prayer - 2nd & 4th Sunday Coffee and Fellowship to follow MEETING Continued from page 4 for population-needs based funding," O'Toole stated.
