Wednesday, May 6, 2009 Orono Weekly Times - 9 by Ann Harley It is only a few short blocks from the weekly Farmer's Market in Newcastle to the current location of Season's Market & Café. The same delightful dips, spreads and herbs that were found each Sunday under a tent at the market may be found at the Esso Gas Station Plaza. The address belies the charming interior. Muted and restful green walls with dark coloured furniture, comfortable stools and padded chairs provide the back drop for a a taste sensation. There are teas from every corner of the world. Scattered around the room are an array of tea pots from cast iron and shiny steel to a white ceramic pot sitting on its own tea light warmer. Here you will find a lunch encounter of the healthy kind. But it still includes a Roast Beef and Cheddar Club with all the extras, bacon, pesto mayo, onions, tomato and lettuce. That could be accompanied by a cold beverage, perhaps a fruit and herb blend, all natural, and free of canned sugar. On our last visit we tried the Minstrone Soup. You can see the chunks of vegetables and relish the vegetable broth base. Accompanying that I had the Veggie Panini with feta spread, cucumber, onions, red pepper and lettuce on whole wheat. It was very good. It was not highly seasoned but with the subtle taste of the feta spread it had a echoes of Greece. My husband chose the Chicken Caesar club with bacon, mozzarella, Caesar dressing, onions and lettuce. It was wonderfully warm and with the soup was perfect for that particularly chilly day. Season's Market has only been open as a café for less than two months. If this beginning is anything to judge by, they will be around for a long time. The additions to their menu from the tent to this location have only served to appeal to a wider audience. Definitely worth a visit.
