Wednesday, June 10, 2009 Orono Weekly Times - 9 STOCKWELL Continued from page 5 Now, in fairness, the Provincial Government is reaching out to ease our pain...of sorts. They will be making a one-time payment of $1,000 to families making less than $160,000 a year, and $300 to singles making less than $80,000 a year. But keep in mind, it`s a one-time payment. That will come from the 4.3 billion dollars Ontario will receive from the Federal government for harmonizing the two taxes. What makes things worse is that the McGuinty government plans to launch a province-wide advertising program selling the harmonization to Ontario taxpayers using taxpayer`s money to fund the project. Another "service" that will be hit with the additional 8% tax is funerals. When asked what the situation will be with prepaid funerals, paid before July 1st, 2020, Finance Minister Dwight Duncan said that they are working on that one with Revenue Canada. That statement can go down in the annals of history alongside of "I gave at the office" and "The cheque`s in the mail." The McGuinty government should have Tennessee Ernie Ford`s old song, "I load sixteen tons and what do I get? Another day older and deeper in debt" as their theme song. Again, if you don`t know who Tennessee Ernie Ford is...ask someone over 65. Sunday's Roy Forrester Day in Orono, featured a concert by the Clarington Concert Band, an organization of which he was a founding member.
