Wednesday, October 21, 2009 Orono Weekly Times - 7 LEAFS Continued from page 6 for the boys as on the weekend, they traveled up to Haliburton to compete in the Cody Hudgson Fall Classic Tournament. The Leafs played in three hard-fought games on Saturday against teams from E to A level centers. The first game was a disappointing loss to their arch rivals, the Highland Storm. Although Orono played well, two unlucky goals bounced by goaltender Evan Rosseau, leading the boys to a 2-0 loss. After a delicious team lunch at McCecks Place, and some team bonding time, the boys faced off in their second game of the day against Brighton. Playing, what seemed to be the best game to date, the Leafs pulled off a 4-1 victory, inching themselves closer to a spot in the semi-finals. The goals went to number 12 Chris Kuijpers, number 11 Stosh Fabricius, Meester, and number nine Tyler Webster. Assists were credited to Hemming, Meester, Webster, Middleton, Cox, and Fabricius, with one each. The last game of the day was against the Sunderland Red Wings, who the Leafs will face later on in league play. The boys played hard and goaltender Ryan Brandt made some key stops, leading to a decisive 5-1 vistory, clinching their spot in the semi-finals on Sunday. Goals went to Kuijpers, Middleton, Meester, number 10 Stefan Fabricius, and number 2 Tyler Meijer. The assists went to Webster with 2, Middleton with 2, Meester with 2, and to Cox, Kuijpers and Hemming, who grabbed one each. After a long drive, the boys from Orono found themselves in the Minden arena for the semi- finals, facing the Valley Storm. The team's play was very disappointing, and lead to a 5-1 loss. Kuijpers provided the lone goal, with the assist going to Stefan Fabricius. Evan Rosseau made some impressive saves to keep the game close until the third, when Valley stepped it up and pocketed two more goals, killing any chance the Leafs had, and ending what was a very exciting week. The boys have another busy week ahead, including a game in Ops on the 21st, in Woodville on the 24th, and their home opener on the 25th against Mariposa.
