Committee member Joan Kimball told the Times. John Greenfield of the Bowmanville Legion said he phoned the Mayor's office when he received notice from the municipality informing him that the Legion would have to pay for road closures if the Remembrance Day parade was to fall on a weekend. Greenfield told the Times he informed the Mayor there would be no more Remembrance Day Parades if they had to pay. The mayor assured him there was no need to worry as Remembrance Day did not fall on a weekend this year, according to Greenfield. Budgetary cuts resulting from the August 31st council meeting trimmed $2 million off the estimated shortfall. Elimination of overtime and weekend service to community groups by the Works Department from October 1st to the end of the year created a savings of $5,000.
