10 - Orono Weekly Times Wednesday, November 4, 2009 Holiday Train returns to Bowmanville On Monday, November 30th, 2009 at 7:00 p.m., the CPR Holiday Train will be stopping once again in Clarington/ Bowmanville at the railroad crossing located on Old Scugog and Concession Streets. The Municipality of Clarington is pleased to be a part of this year's event and is partnering up with the Clarington East Food Bank, St.Vincent de Paul Society and the Salvation Army Family Services Division in hosting the 2009 Holiday Train. The Holiday Train raises the awareness of the public with regards to the fight against hunger. The Holiday Train event invites local food banks along its 130 community stops (covering six provinces and eight states) to participate by collecting food and cash donations. In the last 10 years, the Holiday Train has helped raise $4 million and 2 million pounds of food for community food banks across Canada (since 1999) and the US (since 2001). The 13-car Holiday Train includes a box car stage, a line-up of great musical talent and a corporate contribution to the local food banks. The community, in turn, is encouraged to donate food and funds, all of which stays in the community. On Monday, November 30, the train will arrive at approximately 6:45 p.m. with the show starting at 7:00 p.m.. The train will stop on the tracks located at the intersection of Old Scugog Street and Concession Street just north of Church Street. In these tough economic times, 20% more Canadians are turning to food banks for support this year, and 30% more Americans are at risk of hunger. Hunger continues to be a problem and food banks need our help now more than ever. The Holiday Train is considered Food Bank Canada's largest transportation service donor. The Municipality of Clarington would like to recognize and thank a private citizen, Ellen Cowan, for her enthusiasm and her continued support of the Holiday Train initiative.
