In Orono on April 3, the Leafs played strong both offensively and defensively. Their efforts paid off with Ryan Byrne setting up the play, sending the puck to Matthew Caudle who then passed to John Sims in front of the net. Sims one-timed the puck in for a goal at 1:07 of the first. Smart play and solid offense-work from the defencemen resulted in other chances and eventually another goal for Orono. At 8:20 of the second, Tyler Vesna sent a solid pass to Jacob Beauparlant, who fed it over to Jonathan Feddema. Feddema capitalized on the opportunity with a definitive shot, and scored. Orono showed confidence and grit in this game. Kevin's glove-save nearing the end of the second was great and Josh Hill's goal-tending was spectacular as he was definitely focused and in "his zone" for this important game. It was a great team game, ending 2-1 for Orono. A week later, the Leafs hit the larger ice surface at Clarington's South Courtice Arena for their final game of the season. As in their previous game on the larger ice, the team seemed to have trouble connecting with their passing play as well as with clearing the puck. The large ice seemed to affect the team's psyche, and when Orono did make things work they were stymied by Clarington's goalie. Kevin played well in net for Orono with stretching glove-saves in the first half, allowing just 2 goals to get by out of numerous chances. Josh played an amazing second half, shutting down Clarington's attempts with a crossed-arm catch and other moves, allowing only one, to end the game 3-0 Clarington. The win initiated sudden death overtime to settle the points race and final standings. Orono came to life during the six minutes of 5-on-5, resulting in some good opportunities but no goals. In the 4on-4, Orono's goalies saw action and were up to the challenge, shutting out Clarington's efforts. Then during the 3-on-3, Clarington was able to score, making them the "B" Division winners. Congratulations to the Orono Leafs on a great year. Thanks to the coaching team of Mark Dolley and Darren Caudle for their time and effort, and to John Hill, Paul Herron and Gerry Gough for their help on the ice and behind the bench.
