10 - Orono Weekly Times Wednesday, May 19, 2010 LAKERIDGE Continued from page 9 photo supplied Paula Clark won an Accolades award from the Kawartha Pineridge School Board for her outstanding volunteerism at Orono Public School. The new Mammography machine is a GE Healthcare Senographe Digital Mammography system. This machine provides physicians with clear, precise and easy to read all-digital images. It also has the largest field of view currently available offering an excellent view of the breast, especially near the skin line, chest wall and in women with diverse breast tissue types. Lakeridge Health Bowmanville's previous machine provided images on X-ray film. "Digital mammograms take as little as half the time of film," explained Lydia Antalfy, Director of Diagnostic Imaging at Lakeridge Health. "The digital image is ready to read within 10 seconds meaning our patients no longer have to wait for films to be developed to be sure the images are usable anyone who has undergone a mammogram will understand what a difference that makes," she commented. If a second opinion is needed, the image can be sent electronically to a consulting physician virtually instantaneously. Completing the new Mammography Centre is a powerful enabler to other critical enhancements at the Bowmanville Campus.
