Wednesday, May 19, 2010 Orono Weekly Times - 3 FIREHALL Continued from front core of the village for the new station. Issues with poor drainage and limited space ruled out the site of the existing Newcastle Fire Hall on Highway 2 East. That there is inadequate room at the existing site for the trucks to drive around the back and into the hall was one concern, and insufficient room at the rear of the station for trucks to conduct certain mechanical and water flow tests was another. Approximately half of the $4.5 million cost of the project will come from municipal reserve funds. Another $1-million will come from development charges, $750,000 will come from OPG and $21,000 has been set aside from a previous Federal Infrastructure Grant. Provided council approves the preferred location this month, the final design and construction tender by the end of this year, and final budget next February, the one-year construction phase should commence in March 2011 for April 2012 occupancy.
