Wednesday, May 26, 2010 Orono Weekly Times - 7 13 accidents in Durham Region over long weekend It was a relatively good long weekend on the Region's roads. Durham Police say they were called to 13 accidents involving injuries with only one of those being serious. Officials say just after 8:00 pm on Saturday night, a woman was thrown from her vehicle after losing control on Holt Road in Clarington. Police say she was not wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol is believed to have been a factor. The woman was airlifted to hospital in Toronto with serious injuries. Mabel was one of the founding members of NV&DHS in 1980, and she was instrumental in the society's decision to move to the former Newcastle library in 1988. "Her work was always accurate and beautifully done. She put together beautiful historical booklets outlining the businesses in our community," said Ron Locke, on behalf of the board of directors of the NV&DHS.
