At a community meeting Monday night, 29 of the 35 people in attendance volunteered to become involved in forming a committee to manage the property. According to John Thomson, at a recent meeting with the Ministry of Natural Resources and local stakeholders including the Mayor, it was conveyed that the Ministry was looking for a local group to work with it in the management of the 550acre parcel of public land adjacent to the village of Kendal. The meeting Monday night was organized to gauge the amount of public support for forming a local group to co-manage the property with the MNR. After the meeting Thomson, who chaired the meeting, said he felt everything went very well, and there was no doubt the community was very willing to becoming involved with the property to the west of town. Goal posts warrant $2,000 municipal grant Committee of Council approved an additional $2,000 grant for the Orono Athletic Association this week. Councillor Gord Robinson asked Committee on Monday to approve an additional $2,000 municipal grant for the Orono Amateur Athletic Association (OAAA) for new goal posts. The OAAA seldom comes to the Municipality for funds, Robinson told his fellow Councillors, and he said he had to twist Association member Gord Lowery's arm to allow him to ask for the money. Lowery had contacted the Municipality to find out where to go to order goal posts, and that is when Robinson became involved. In March, the OAAA ,along with many other Clarington volunteer athletic organizations, received a municipal grant of $2,500, as it has for many years in the past. The OAAA is currently creating a new soccer field, at the north end of the fairgrounds. According to Lowery, the $4,000 cost for the two new goal posts would have been absorbed by the OAAA. The kids have been using the field for practice this season and once the new goals posts have been ordered and installed, probably in two to three weeks, Lowery said, the new field will be ready for games.
