On Monday night the Boys in Blue took on the new Port Hope Junior River Rats. The Eagles were anxious to see what kind of competition the River Rats would give. The Port Hope boys put up a good fight, keeping the game close into the fifth inning. Eventually the Birds were able to chase the Port Hope starting pitcher from the game. Then they were able to rough up the relievers for a bunch as they put the game out of reach. The Eagles were impressed with the level of play from the Juniors and believe they are an excellent addition to the league. Game One Boxscore R H Kendal Eagles 13 14 Port Hope Jrs 6 10 for his first victory this season. Player-Coach BJ Hackett and shortstop Bryan Landry both had three-hit nights, while Kyle Searle and Lee "Rube" Allin chipped in with two hits a piece. After hitting a seventhinning triple, where he felt he was slowed up running behind Hackett, second-year man Tyson Gimblett said, "I would have had an in-the-park dingdong if it wasn't for all the traffic on the (base paths)." In the game the Eagles were able to bang out a season-high 14 hits. The normally feeble Eagles offence has been on fire to start this season, averaging 11 safeties per contest through the first four games of the season. The Eagle looked to climb above .500 with a win on Wednesday night against the Senior Flyers in Port Hope. However, the game was cancelled due to rain. The Eagles' next game will be this Sunday, June 13th, versus the Peterborough River Dogs; it is a noon start time. ST.
