6 - Orono Weekly Times Wednesday, June 30, 2010 LOCAL SPORTS Kendal Eagles Baseball DURHAM COUNTY SENIORS EUCHRE JUNE 28TH RESULTS TOP SCORES Tough week for Eagles by Chris Stark The Kendal Eagles, sponsored by Northumberland Motor Product, were off to Kinsmen Stadium in Oshawa on Wednesday night. They were looking to end a seasonlong three-game losing skid. However, the Oshawa Royals and pitcher Mark Blanchard had other ideas. The Eagles limped into the park with a short bench and showed little life to start the game. Oshawa on the other hand came out swinging, as they touched Eagle's starting pitcher Evan Moore up for nine runs over five innings. Meanwhile, Blanchard was baffling the listless Eagle hitters with a mixture of pitches, all of which he was able to throw for strikes. When all was said and done, the Eagles line score read zero, zero, and zero. Blanchard, who was terrific, threw a no-hitter and was just a single error away from a perfect game. The Eagles were then home to the Port Hope Jr. River Rats on Sunday. For the third time in two weeks the Boys in Blue faced young lefty Shawn Tomlinson. The Eagle's responded with right hander Phil Camisulli, who was in search of his first victory of the year. Camisulli got into some trouble in the first with a walk and a Kyle Vowels error. Catcher Kyle Searle was able to pick off the lead runner with a sneaky throw down to third base, but another error this time by Camisulli lead to a 1-0 Port Hope lead. Port Hope then tacked on two more in the third, a result of a second Vowels error, two walks and an untimely double. They then added another run in the fourth, the only earned run that Camisulli gave up in the game. Tomlinson was busy blanking the Eagles by striking out eleven over seven innings and allowing only a single hit. As dominant as this performance sounds, the Birds had several chances to cash in some runs against the young lefty. They were able to load the bases in the third and fourth and had runners on second and third in the fifth but, all were stranded as the Eagles were unable to come up with a clutch hit. ing only a single hit in the last two games, the Birds coach BJ Hackett said, "The Eagle's hitters will be concentrating on getting the offence going." The Eagles would like to apologize to any fans that made the trek to the Harvey Jackson Memorial Park on Monday night. The game against the Oshawa Royals was cancelled because Oshawa could not field a team. The Eagles will look to turn it around against a tough Peterborough River Dogs team at Riverside Park tonight (Wednesday night). The Eagles then have the long weekend off and will return to action in Port Hope on Monday, July 5th, a rematch against the pesky Junior squad. 1st Ina Smith 2nd Shirley Watson 3rd Merriam Hawley 4th Kathy Garvey (tie)Minnie Taylor HIGH 78 77 75 74 74 FOR YEAR (tie) Shirley Watston 95 Helen Couroux 95 NEXT CARD PARTY: Mon.,Sept. 13th, 7:30pm REBEKAH HALL EUCHRE RESULTS FOR JUNE 23RD 1st Reid Harness 2nd Eileen Stephens 3rd Jane Tomlinson 4th Helen mackey TOP SCORES "The Birds had several chances to cash in some runs."
