Wednesday, July 14, 2010 Orono Weekly Times - 9 Jan Oegema's wood carving "A Tribute to Canada's Military Heroes," was unveiled at Newcastle's One of a Kind Artist & Artisans Show and Sale held at Bond Head Beach on Saturday morning. The carving depicts images of the First and Second World Wars, a motorcade carrying Canada's fallen soldiers on the Highway of Heroes from Trenton to Toronto, and wounded soldiers. It will be on display at The Gift of Art Studio on Robert Street in Newscastle for the month of July. Join us from July 19th - 23rd for our X-Treme Explorers History Day Camp. Walk with the Dinosaurs on July 19th, explore the hot and dusty pyramids of Ancient Egypt on July 20, experience Medieval Times as you graduate from Page to Knight on July 21st, discover ancient arts of China on July 22nd and dive into the oceans with Jacques Costeau on July 23rd. And you won't want to miss the Intrigue and Mystery History Day Camp, which takes place August 16th - 20th. Decipher codes as a spy for the day on August 16th, discover the early inhabitants of Clarington on August 17th, dive into the science of submarines on August 18th, blast off into space on August 19th and then become a mad scientist on August 20th with ooey gooey experiments. Day camps run from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday, and are suitable for children aged 5 to 11. Before and after care is available for an additional fee.
