Trails Committee, consisting of Durham Tourism, Durham Region Health and Planning Departments and with the assistance of the Durham Trails Coordinating Committee, recently launched the new Durham Region Trails Guide. The new guide features revised maps of more than 350 kilometres of recreational trails winding through Durham Region. The guide lists all of Durham's trails by municipality and gives a description of their length, surface type, access points, washroom stops and wheelchair accessibility. "The Trails Guide is the perfect complement to a healthy, active lifestyle," said Sarah Sharrard, Manager, Public Health Nursing and Nutrition with the Health Department and Chair of Durham Lives! "This full-colour, easy-toread publication not only lists the scenic trails in each of our eight local area municipalities, it offers tips on how taking it to the trail makes for a happy and healthy lifestyle." Durham's unique trail system which winds through urban centres, small hamlets, wetlands and lush green forests is representative of the diverse community Durham Region is. From the waterfront trails to the rolling hills of the Oak Ridges Moraine, there's a trail for every recreational need. "The community can reconnect with the fresh outdoors by exploring Durham's trail system whether by foot, bike, ski, snowshoe, roller blade, wheelchair or horse!" said Kerri King, Manager of Tourism for the Region of Durham.
