Wednesday, November 17, 2010 Orono Weekly Times - 3 Thieves strike after family moves to Orono Having both grown up in a small town atmosphere, Marcia and Ed Worona had a long term goal: to one day live in Orono. "We didn't think we would move out for a couple of years," Marcia, told the Orono Times, "but then we found the property at 8 Princess Street." The house did need some work, but Ed, a windows and siding contractor, knew he could do that work himself; it was the one-acre lot in town that really sold the Woronas on the property. To open up the back door and have an acre of property for their two boys, Sam age seven and Jack age five, to play on, and still be in town, "was a perfect fit," according to Marcia. Having room on the property to park Ed's work truck and trailer was a bonus. On October 1st, the family made the move from Bowmanville to Orono, where they can walk to the library, the Chinese food restaurant and the arena for skating lessons, all while enjoying the atmosphere that a small community can have. On the morning of November 5th, preparing to drive the boys to school, Ed showed young Sam how to use the remote control starter for the truck. When Sam ran outside and reported the remote control had not worked, Ed discovered his truck was not in the driveway. Sometime during the night, thieves had made off with his truck, a 1996 green Chevy extenda-cab pick-up, his custom trailer, and a number of items out of the barn. Ed kept all his work tools in the truck, the trailer and the barn. The family reported the theft to the police, and gave them a list of the missing tools. The police told Ed, they will look at pawn shops to see if anything on the list shows up. The police officer also them, Ed says he now avoids thinking about it. He is pretty optimistic nobody will break into the house while they are there. While Marcia doesn't feel as safe as she once did, Ed says for him, he feels their belongings aren't as safe. Ed is hoping the thieves just clear out the truck and trailer and leave them on the side of the road somewhere. While the insurance company only gives the police 10 days to find the stolen property, Ed says he is going to wait another 10 days before he gives up on his belongings The family is offering a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the return of the trailer, "no questions asked," according to the flyer they have posted around town.
