Wednesday, November 24, 2010 Orono Weekly Times - 7 Holiday Train to stop in Bowmanville On Sunday, November 27, the 2010 Canadian Pacific Holiday Train leaves the station in Beaconsfield, Quebec en route to Port Moody, BC, where it will arrive on December 17th. This 14-car train, decked out with hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights, will make a stop in Bowmanville at 6 p.m. at Scugog Street on Sunday, November 28th. One of the train's cars is a stage which will open up onto the street, facing south, and from this stage The Odds and the Brothers Dubé will perform. The Odds, an alternative rock band from Vancouver, will bring their energy and fullvoiced harmonies to the gathered crowd. The Brothers Dubé, quite possibly the youngest sibling rock band in the world, got their musicals start in Ottawa at the ages of 6, 8 and 10. Santa will also make an appearance at the stop. Admission to the train's stop and concert is free if you bring a non-perishable food item, which will be distributed to the Clarington East Food Bank, the Salvation Army's Family Services and the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank. CP presents a cheque at each stop to top off whatever the audience donates that day. The Holiday Train progam, which began in 1999, made its first stop in Bowmanville in 2005. Despite the large crowd welcoming the train at its inagural visit, Bowmanville was not on the route for the 2006 Holiday Train. After much lobbying by interested parties, Bowmanville was back on the route in 2007 and the Holiday Train has been stopping at Scugog Street each year ever since. Clarington council was ready to cancel the train's stop in 2009 due to a budgetary shortfall, but a private citizen stepped up and paid to have the road closed, saving the train stop. The event is organized by the Municpalities' Tourism and Marketing Department and they will be collecting and distributing the food donations. While the train is scheduled to stop in Bowmanville at 6 p.m. on Sunday, CP advises that all times are approximate and recommends that people plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early.
