Wednesday, December 8, 2010 Orono Weekly Times - 9 Kids' Safety Village lights up for Christmas The Durham Regional Police Service is inviting people of all ages to get into the festive spirit at a special event this Friday night at the Kids' Safety Village in Whitby. The miniature village at 1129 Athol Street in Whitby will be turned into a Christmas paradise with special lights, music, tasty treats, carolers and Noah's Ark Animals to entertain the kids. Despite their very busy schedule, Mr. and Mrs. Claus are also scheduled to attend to say hello to the boys and girls. An official festive lighting ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with the help of Whitby Mayor Pat Perkins, Jim Lavelle of Whitby Hydro and Durham Regional Police Chief Mike Ewles. Families are invited to come and walk through our village, enjoy the sounds of the Ron Cross Drummers, sing with our carolers and snack on hot chocolate and cookies. The event is free with a donation to the DRPS Food and Toy Drive. Don't forget to bring an extra pair of mittens for the Mitten Tree in the Village Church and we will ensure they go to a needy family. For more information, please contact PC Astrid Morse, DRPS Safety Village at 905-668-9893. The Orono Horticultural Society elected their new board of directors for the coming year.
