Mayor Foster too wants to make sure nobody got the impression that "we are not focused on roads." Additional resources have been directed towards roads in the 2012 budget according to Foster. "Will we ever get on top it entirely, `No'," Foster stated. He lamented that like every other municipality, Clarington is having difficulty keeping up with the aging infrastructure. "Do we need to try and balance things as best we can? Absolutely," he stated. The promotion of the CHOO Chili Cook-Off which was expected to attract 5000 people to the Orono Fair Grounds on May 23rd and 24th hangs by a thread. Three representatives of CHOO Radio Station including Lorna Braid, along with Harold Ransberry of the Orono Fair Board and Ann Dreslinski of the Orono Downtown Business Association met with David Oakes, Clerk and Larry Kotseff, Chief Administrative Officer on Tuesday morning of this week. Following the meeting Ann Dreslinski said that at this point things are still up in the air. She said CHOO had not been able to firm up a contract with a Juno award winning Country and Western Band due to delays and that cooks had been notified that the Cook-Off had been called off. CHOO has come to agreement with the Fair Board and at the present time the date(s) are being held both by the 50 Years Ago... It is that time of year again and the classes are buzzing with excitement as the date draws closer. Commencement is always a high point in a student's life, especially the award winners and diploma receivers. The staff and students of O.H.S. are honoured to have as their guest speaker this year, Mr. H. Allan Leal, Dean of Osgoode Law School in Toronto. The Valedictory address will be given by Roma Glanville, a much respected and popular student during her four years at O.H.S. Commencement is one of the big events of the year because it gives every student a chance to participate. The Glee Club under the direction of Mrs. F. Fletcher, has been busy for the past several weeks preparing their portion of the entertainment. They will present six musical favourites for the enjoyment of the guests, teachers, parents and friends. The Drama Club under the direction of Mr. E.G. Witherspoon, will present "The Monkey's Paw", a story of mystery and suspense. The director and cast have been rehearsing at every possible convenient, time, so this production should prove very entertaining. Orono High School's last Commencement is going to be a special event for the staff and students and they hope to have many parents and friends present to share their enthusiasm. Cecil Robinson, Mr. A.J. Staples, Secretary, and Dr. Neil Colville, acting Medical Health Officer in the absence of Dr. McCullough, who is under leave of absence owing to illness. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and adopted. Mr. L.E. Case submitted an application for licence to sell milk in Orono under the supervision of the Milk Control Board. After the Board received a very satisfactory report from Dr. Neil Colville on his recent examination of the milking conditions of L.E. Case's farm, the Board granted the permit. Permits for cutting ice for cooling puposes only were granted to Mr. Hartwell Lowery, lot 25, concession 7, and Mr. George Gray, lot 16, concession 2 and Mr. F.J. Hall.
