6 - Orono Weekly Times 1937 - 2012 · Celebrating 75 Years Wednesday, April 4, 2012 Orono Leafs win consolation By: Ashley Bain After a being eliminated in the second round of playoffs, the Orono midgets entered their consolation round determined more than ever to come out on top. After playing a total of four teams twice, in hopes of becoming one of the top two teams who would battle it out for the title of `VictoriaD u r h a m Consolation R o u n d Champions'. Orono was able to earn a spot in the final game after placing second overall. In the final game on March 27, Orono took the drive up to Woodville to take on the Hurricanes. With the first period underway, it looked like Orono didn't need the home advantage after they scored two goals within 5 minutes apart from each other. But Woodville didn't give up and were able to score a goal before the period's end. As the second period started, Woodville was able to put the pressure on Orono by tying up the game with a goal in the beginning of the period. But with only 32 seconds left, Orono was able to knock one in, making the score 3-2 going in to the final period. With Orono determined to keep their lead and Woodville determined to play catch-up, the third period was guaranteed to be an interesting o n e . Orono g a v e s o m e amazing hits and great plays and with less the 10 minutes left on the clock Orono was able to seal their fate as champions with a final goal, making the final score 42 for Orono. Chris Haass, Colin Lamers (2) and Ryan Bain scored Orono's goals, with the assists going to Dan Benedict, Connor Hegan, Ryan Bain, Jake Monroe, Chris Haass, Tyler Meijer, Mitch Van Schyndel and Tyler Rich. Congratulations Orono on your championship win and an overall great season.
