"When the access to information request came up," Oda says, "it reminded me." Oda came under fire for a similar incident when as Minister of Heritage she racked up nearly $5,500 in limo rides while attending the 2006 Juno awards in Halifax. She opted for a limo rather than the minivan provided to take her to the awards. After the expense was made public, Oda paid back $2,226 to the government for transportation not related to her ministerial duties. There is no indication that Oda will be reimbursing taxpayers for the luxury car and driver she hired to shuttle herself the two kilometres between the Savoy and Grange St. Paul's hotels while in London last summer. LOCAL EVENTS Continued What a night To The Editor: What a terrific evening at the Orono Town Hall 10th annual spaghetti dinner last Saturday night! This annual fundraiser is always such a treat. It is a great chance to catch up with people you don't see as often as you would like. There are great items up for the auction and last evening the "card game" expertly run by Connie Barry was just way too much fun! I only wish I'd had a video camera to record some of the shenanigans. The table decorations using empty paint cans, hand painted by the board members, and bright tissue paper were inspirational considering the purpose of the fund raiser this year is to re-paint the interior of the hall. Thanks to the Town Hall Board for all the hard work you do to keep our historic gem in good shape and for arranging such a wonderful evening. Frances & Tim Tufts Kendal LOCAL SPORTS Handsomely paid To The Editor: So nine months after the trip, after it hits the news, our MP pays for her choice of the Savoy. What's important, she tells us, is that the taxpayer doesn't pay for her choice. Good gracious, who pays her so handsomely that she can afford to spend close to a thousand dollars per daya hotel? Whoever it is, they should consider paying her less.
