6 - Orono Weekly Times 61937 - 2012 · Celebrating 75 Years Wednesday, June 6, 2012 Eagles in a funk By: Chris Stark On Wednesday night the Kendal Eagles took on the Port Hope River Rats. The Birds had high hopes of taking over first place in the East Division with a win over the expansion River Rats. However, Rats starter, Nic Stone had other ideas. The hard throwing righty had full control of his arsenal on this night and was simply blowing the ball by the Boys in Blue. The Eagles bats simply went to sleep and the team was shutout 4-0. Eagles starter, Kyle Vowels gave up a few hard hit balls and was tagged with the loss. On Sunday the Birds played a doubleheader against the Pickering Pirates. Phil Cammisulli took to the bump for the Eagles. Unfortunately for him the offences lackluster performance from Wednesday carried over into this game. The offense could only generate three hits. Cammisulli made only one mistake during the game and it cost him a monster two run ding dong. That is all the Pirates needed as they took the game 2-0. In the second game Russ `Snuffy' Hunt took the ball for the Boys in Blue. Hunt had a rough first inning giving up two runs on three hits, but he then settled in and for the rest of the game only gave up four more hits. Unluckily for Hunt the Eagles bats were still stuck in a funk. After the Pirates half of the fourth the Eagles found themselves down 3-0. In the final three frames the bats came to life and the Birds picked up four hits and two runs. Weather became a factor in the sixth, in a steady downpour the Eagles had the tying run on third and the go ahead run on first. The coaching staff decided to play for the tie with a squeeze play. However, the play was botched and Pirates made an inning ending double play. The game was then called due to rain, final score Pirates 3, Eagles 2. Rookie, Justin Wannamaker was the Eagles biggest offensive threat on the day going 2-4 with a walk and an RBI. The Eagles will play this Wednesday in Kendal a 7:30 start. Then they'll take to the road in Ajax for some Sunday night baseball. 1ST DAN GARVEY 2ND EILEEN STEPHENS 3RD MAE TABB 4TH INA SMITH CARDS REBEKAH HALL EUCHRE MAY 30TH RESULTS TOP SCORES 81 78 73 71 Durham County Seniors JUNE 04TH RESULTS TOP SCORES 1ST MARRIAM HAWLEY 2ND CARK GRAHAM 3RD RAY KEATS 4TH CAROL WEATHERUP 5TH (TIE) MAE TABB 5TH (TIE) DAN GRAVEY 86 82 80 79 77 77 2012 Pontypool Men's Sunday Lob Ball League Results for: June 3rd, 2012 RENEGADES OVER BLAZERS OVER BLACKJACKS OVER SLIME OVER K.C RAMS ROKA GENERALS PITA PIT OUTLAWS 7:6 18:14 20:18 21:13 League Standings as of: May 28 2012 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
