Ombudsman's Office Fielded 18,500 Complaints More than 18,500 Ontario citizens complained to the Ombudsman last year. That's an increase of 27%, according to the 2011-2012 Annual Report from Ombudsman André Marin. He said that, as the Province faces a deficit and looks for ways to reduce costs, the Ombudsman's Office can help ensure accountability and fairness in public services. A recent Toronto Sun article entitled "Meet the Public Watchdog With Bite" listed a number of the Ombudsman's victories, including introducing newborn health screening, establishing new rules about lottery ticket sales, and fighting for common sense from the bureaucracy when people are suffering as a result of bad government decisions.
