A picked softball team from Orono defeated the Coca Cola softball team from Oshawa on Wednesday evening in the local park by a score of 25 to 16. This is the second win the locals have had over this team. Myles and McIlveen was the battery for the homesters. These students of Miss Foster's Entrance class were successful in pass- ing into High school with satisfactory marks on their year's work. Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Froste and son Wilfred and Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Forrester and son John enjoyed a very pleasant motor trip to the Bay of Quinte on Sunday and saw the oldest church in Canada at Hay Bay, erected in 1791-92 by Rev. Wm. Losee and also the cairn erected on the land where Sir John A. Macdonald spent his childhood. Only the cellar marks the place where the house once stood. Motorcyclist injured in Newcastle A 44-year-old male motorcyclist was seriously injured and remains in a Toronto hospital as a result of a motor vehicle collison on Toronto Street west of Mill Street in Newcastle on Friday. At approximatly 5:13 p.m. on June 22nd officers from East Division were called to the scene of a motorcycle and car collision on Toronto Street in Newcastle which resulted in three people being rushed to hospital. The motorcyclist was heading east bound on Toronto Street, when he was struck by a blue Pontiac which was turing left into a parking lot on the same street. Eye witness accounts said the motorcyclist was tossed from his motorbike when the Pontiac hit the motorcycle. The 44-year-old Newcastle motorcyclist was transported to Lakeridge Health Bowmanville and later airlifted to a Toronto hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 42-year-old woman was driving the car at the time and had a 42-year-old male passenger in the vehicle. Both were taken to the Bowmanville Hospital. Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. Investigators have determined that road and weather conditions were favourable at the time of the collision. Police determined that alcohol was not a factor in the collision. Anyone with new information about this incident or who might have witnessed this collision is asked to call D/Cst.
