4 - Orono Weekly Times 1937 - 2012 · Celebrating 75 Years Wednesday, August 15, 2012 Robinson complies with zoning by-law Charges against former Ward 4 councillor, Gord Robinson have been dropped. Clarington's By-law Department laid charges in June following a complaint from a neighbour that Robinson was illegally operating a dog park at his mother's farm at 4591 Concession Road 4 in Newtonville. The property at the Robinson farm is zoned agriculture, which does allow for a commercial dog park and training facility such as Robinson was operating but not without re-zoning and site plan approval. Robinson was to appear in Ontario Court Provincial Division in Whitby on August 17, 2012 on the zoning charge which held a maximum fine of $50,000. Fees for the rezoning and site plan approval to operate the dog park legally would have cost Robinson approximately $3,000. Len Creamer, Clarington's Chief By-law officer told the Times on Monday that the municipality has withdrawn the court action because Robinson has done "everything we asked him to do." Though a fee schedule for use of the dog park was listed on the Robinson Ridge Facebook page and in a flyer posted in downtown Newtonville, Robinson told the By-law department that he was operating the dog park for family and friends only and was not charging for the use of the facility. Court action initiated by the municipality was only for the illegal operation of the dog training facility. "This is the clearest and simplest (offense) to get a conviction on," Creamer told the Times on Monday July 23. Robinson served as local councillor for Ward 4 from 2000 until 2010 when he ran to represent Ward 3 and 4 as their Regional Councillor and lost. The municipality has as yet not received a rezoning application from Robinson.
