We are all contemplating our loss. The old feller was 72 and his hips had gone, I think his eye sight was failing and he definitely smelled bad. Even so he had managed to keep eating with the two teeth he had left and after ten years of hobbling around on three legs he could still catch and scoff down the odd mouse or two even if he left their bums and tails in tact on the carpet for us to find in the morning. That was Tiger; the cat that kept on giving. Like all family members who leave us too soon he left us with fond memories of happier times. The day we bought Tiger from the pet store in Pickering we stood outside the mall waiting for our ride, all the time getting weird looks from passers-by because we were talking to a cardboard box. Now and again a tiny ginger head would pop up from the folded box lid in an attempt at a jail break. Tiger was always in the thick of things. One afternoon I went to finish up a pile of washing, transferring it to the tumble dryer. Mid load I was called away by a ringing telephone. I despatched the telemarketer by faking a Spanish accent and claiming to be the cleaner, (not entirely a lie), then I returned to the tumble dryer. Cranking the dryer dial produced an expensive soundRIP TIGER see page 12 CARDS ST.
