J. H. H. JURY-AND E.A. LOVELL, DRUGGISTS, AT REXALL CONVENTION Leading Merchants Gather Ideas in Boston - New : Mr. J. H. H; Jury and Mr. E. A. Lovell Proprietors of The Rexall Stores both a : Oshawa and here, and among the most progressive business men in the section, left for Boston, Aug. 14 where they wil attend thé Eleventh Annual Rexall Convention Convention of the United Drug. Company, mi organization in which théy are heavy stockholders. To a Statesman reporter Mr. Jury of the busy Rexall Store just before before Kis departure, Mr. Jury outlined his plans and gave a vivid description of a new form of practical co-operation which he calls "The Rexall Idea." Why Rexall Stores Win "People ask me," he said, "how I can offer high-grade goods at such low prices; where I get such a lot of new merchandise; and the latest wrinkles in store service before before anyone else. I would be glad to take the credit for these things to myself, but frankly I owe much of my good fortune to "the fact that-. I am a member of the United Drug Company. This Company Company was started in Boston eleven years ago, by Louis K. Ligget. At that time there; was no such thing as co-operation in the; retail drug business. r It was every man for himself and the 'devil take the hindmost.' Individual druggists manufactured manufactured theiri own remedies, good, bad indifferent; bought their goods in small lots at high prices, and fought each other tooth and nail..- Mr. Ligget saw that if the buying arid manufacturing power of the leading druggists could be combinéd, and a standard policy adoptëd for all.their stores, the result would be increased business business and better service for the public.; Rexall Remedies Guaranteed mi The The West End House A. A "Beginning with forty of thé biggest retailers retailers in this country, he formed the United Drug Comany and began to manufacture manufacture a line of honest household remedies, remedies, based on tested formulas, the sale of which was limited t:~ one druggist in each locality. These rèmedies were made )y skilled chemists from the best materials; materials; and to' .further protect- the public, each remedy was sold -under a positive guarantee of satisfaction or money back. Furthermore, Rexall Remedies were not patent medicines; their formulas were published in book-form, so that before buying'a remedy, a; customer could see just what it contained. ^ "If you will remember that up to that time the buyer of household remedies never knew-what he was getting or what he would be asked to pay for it, .you can understand how the public appreciated the Rexall Store plan of doing business. From the-yery beginning, Rexall Remedies Remedies had an enormous sale. New Rexall Stores were opened, one in eactr locality, as fast as possible, considering the fact that before any druggist is allowed to sell United Drug Company products, his financial standing and ^personal character are rigidly investigated and that unless he is universally recognized as. the leading druggist in his community, community, he cannot secure the Rexall sales privilege. "As soon as the public realized- what Rexall Remedies were, they began to ask for other goods 'made by the same people that make Rexall.' To meet this demand the United Drug Company entered other fields. United Drug Company Covers 25 Acres "In 1903; the Company's business was confined to one r building with 30,000 square feet of floor space. To-day, it is operating laboratories, factoriés, mills, warehouses arid branches, throughout the United States, Canada and Great Britain, and requires total of over 1,006,000 square feet of floor space--or more than 25 acres --for the manufacture of such exclusively Rexall Store products as Rexall Remedies Harmony Perfumes ; Liggett's, Fenway and Saturday Candies; Symphony Lawn, Ustaco and Bokhara Stationery ; Maximum, Monogram and American Beauty Rubber Products ; Kleenzo and Marguerite Tooth Brushes ; -Liggett's Orangeade, Grape Juice and Fruit Syrups, etc;, etc. Rexall Means Do w Prices "The people welcomed these new goods juit as they had welcomed the first Rexall Remedies, and today the Rexall Store sign is displayed by over 7,000 druggists in the United States, Canada and . Great Britain, and everywhere it is accepted as positive evidence that the owners of those stores can he trusted to give a square deal, and that anything they sell will be Men's Oxfords All our Men's Oxfords, in Black and Tan, Regular -$4.00 and $4.50, One Week Special. ...$3,25 Women's Dongola Oxfords Women's Dongola Oxfords, Keg. <$i 50, $1 75 and $2 00, One Week ■ Special......... ..................... $ 1 # « *.) |j 1 1 >) < i Patent and Velour Oxfords Odd sizes and broken lines in Patent Patent and Velour, Reg. $4.00 and $4.50, One Week' Special $2.50 Women's Tan, Oxfords . This public confidence embraces not only the goods actually manufactured by the United United Drug Company, the sale of which Rexall Rexall Druggists control, but extends to all the merchandise sold by the Rexall Store. This is due to the fact that instead of buying buying it in individual small lots, Rexall Druggists bunch their orders,, thus securing securing from manufacturers and jobbers big price concessions of which they give their customers the benefit. The average average druggist who, for instance, buys half a dozen hot water bottles from one manufacturer manufacturer cannot hope to secure so low a: price as the manufacturer can. afford to quote when the United Drug Company places an order to supply hot water bottles'to bottles'to over 7,000 druggists. It is. the same with all other merchandise. Everything sold in the Rexall Store is bought at the rock bottom price, and can, therefore, be sold at a rockbottom price and still yield the druggist a fair profit. Rexall Druggists Are Impo t- "Another advantage enjoyed by Rexall druggists is thé fact that the United Drug Company has agents in all European countries countries who are constantly on the watch for new goods and hew ideas. When a customer customer goes into a Rexall Store to buy anything in drug store" merchandise--I don't care what it is--he has his pick of the bwt goods from all quarters of the, earth. If He wants to buy, say, the finest tooth brush made, he can get it in two ways: by going to France himself, or by going to The Rexall Druggist, who- controls controls the output of the finest tooth brush factories in France. . If the purchaseIs a bottle of violet perfume, made' from real Parina violets, a box of breakfast oocoaj made in Holland, a Christmas greeting card, created by an artist in London, the same is true. The customer can get it by going abroad .or by trading at The Rexall Stored-. • 777^777' 7 -Z - 7 Annual Meetings Held ' "Of couney with all these advantages* The Rexall Store 'is bound- to succeed, provided only that 'the Rexall Druggist >1 Misses White Canvas Boots . To insure this we hold an Annual Convention in some prominent city, at which we exchange ideas, show each other new goods, tell our experiences and plan new ways of giving the public better service and lower prices. Last vear's meeting was held in St. Louis, Missouri, and the meeting we are now going going to attend is to be in Boston. It will last foiir days, Monday, August l8th, to Thursday, August 3ist. There will be six business sessions, during which we shall gather new ideas and buy new goods for next season; and in addition to practical practical matters we expect to have a mighty good time. Rexallities from Everywhere "You see, the United Drug Company is purely co-operative. - Since there is only one Rexall Druggist in each locality, we are partners and not competitors. ' When I get to Boston I will meet and be on friendly terms with druggists whom I have met at other Rexall Conventions, and who are coming to this me - ting 'from every state in the Union, from all the provinces of Canada, and from England, Scotland,. Ireland and Wales. During the meetings and in informal talks between whiles, we will criticize each other's methods, and offer suggestions that ..will be welcomed, just as you would welcome à hint from' à friend of yours. - 7- . Good Times in Boston ; "To realize what mighty good fellows these druggists are, you ought to see us when we 'Gét Together,' as we say, for a good time. / This year we will have theatre parties, motor trips, luncheons, smokers, banquets and a big field day at Nantasket Beach. •' . * , W.
