The anniversary was as usual a grand success. Sunday last--Rev. J. U. Robins, Oakwood, brightened the spirits of those who listened to his afternoon address to the Sehool on "The man who swallowed himself". The children sang well and the service was greatly enjoyed. A splendid audience greeted the preacher in the evening when he gave an excellent discourse to the older people with which everyone was delighted. Providence choir gave good musical service, rendering rendering three fine anthems and a ladies' quartet quartet composed of Mrs. Jos. Wight, Miss Ella Wight, Mrs. C. A. Wight and Miss Elsie Bragg sang very sweetly "Praise Ye the Lord", Miss Ethel M. Bragg presiding at the organ. Monday afternoon a football game, Zion vs Solina was played resulting in a score of i-o in favor of the former. The ladies served a good supper after which a concert was given by Toronto talent to a splendid audience. This village village is famed for its excellent Dominion Day concerts and this year's was no exception. exception. The artists were Madame Coutts- Bain, Scottish vocalist and reader; Howard Howard Russell, baritone; Robert Wilson, comedian. Sharp, son of Mr. Andrew Sharp northwest of this village and wife motored from Seattle, Wash., to Santa' Barbara, Calf., a ivdays trip which they greatly enjoyed. They do big things in the West.,., Again our village has been saddened by the removal by death of another another old resident Mr. John Cowling, who passed away on Tuesday morning, June 26th, after a little over a week's illness. Mr. Cowling who had lived around Haydon and Enniskillen for about fifty years, had been a cripple from rheumatism rheumatism for a number of years, and was seldom able to leave his home, but his friends will miss in his departure, a quiet, kind neighbor. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Rd. McNeil of this place, and one son, Mr. Fred Cowling, Cowling, Purple Hill. The funeral service was conducted in the home Thursday, in the presence of a large number, by his pastpr Rev. H. Wilkinson. Friends from a distance were Mr. and_ Mrs. Chas.
