The service was conducted by Rev. Gordon Rutherford who introduced the guest minister, Rev. Earl Leard of Toronto. Rev. Leard is head of the United church's Bekley studios and has been in Welcome previously as a visitor. visitor. The children's story referred referred to the founding of the church so long ago, as being an important factor in their own lives. For all the generations generations since the house of God has been maintained as a place of worship and learning for the parents and children of today. Rev. Beard's message was titled, "The liberating bond". He spoke of the difference in the way of life since 1834 when the things we call necessities were unknown, the telephone, T.V., radio, cars, electrical appliances - it surely was a different world. With all that change we are on the verge of a new era, where the arms race, frustration in have-not countries and take-over by machines present an alarming picture. A meaning for living in our complex time, as always, is the covenant offered offered by Jesus, The choice is ours to accept it or not, and with acceptance comes the obligation obligation to pass on the love we receive, an obligation which is a compelling desire. The choir sang two anthems, "We are the People of his Pasture" and "All in an April Evening", which added much to this service. Ushers were John Connelly, Roy McHolm, Raymond Inch and Percy Hoskin. Beautiful daffodils and narcissi brought joy of spring into the church for this special service, fresh from the Connelly garden. Coffee was served following the service. Men are busy on the land with huge machines accomplishing accomplishing in a few hours work requiring a man of former times to take days with a team of horses. Some seeding is done on high land and other land worked as soon as it is dry enough to carry the machines. The world of nature is more interesting than ever in the spring. Tne poor robin who was hammering windows and car doors for three weeks is gone but a skunk behaving strangely invaded the territory territory around two houses last week so had to be destroyed.
