Ted Shiner, president of the local Home and School Council, gave the award to Phyllis Zabudsky (left), president of the organization, and Christine Rowden, membership chairman. Enniskillen Enniskillen U.C.W. met in the church April 20th, 7:30 p.m. President Barbara Howe opened the meeting with a reading with many good rules for everyday living. Correspondence Correspondence and Announcements Announcements were read. Minutes read and approved. Pastor Lafave gave us a talk on the "Venture in Mission" asking for three people to form a committee to work on this project. Doreen Lamb took charge of the program. Mrs. Kerr Sr., Liz, Kathy and Michael entertained entertained us with music. Mrs. Kerr at the piano, Kathy sang "The surrey with the fringe on top". Michael sang "I whistle a happy tune" both supported by Liz. Mrs. Kerr explained to us the significance of colour as related to music. All four sang several spirituals and were enjoyed by all. Kay Lafave opened the devotion devotion with prayer and Bible passages - James 1,22 - 27. We sang Hymn 384. Kay read from "Patterns for Devotions" Devotions" explaining everything has an angel and a poem "Mission". Hymn 387 - offering offering was received and dedicated. dedicated. Doreen Lamb organized a skit from "Just A Touch Of Drama". Several ladies took part pointing out the role women played in the Bible and early Christian days. Continuing to demonstrate how they can take an even greater role in today's church and the community community - Mary, Dorcos, Martha and Eunice were the Bible women played by Shirley Shirley Pollard, Nellie Groene- veld, Alma Rowan, and Barbara Howe. Commentators Commentators were Doreen Lamb and Margaret Stainton. Annie provided background music. Jd&n Speakman and Shirley Stainton took the parts "Accentuate the Positive and Eliminate the Negative", finished with Annie Wright playing "Onward Christian Soldiers". Well done by everyone. I % ./ j/r Adolescent suicide will be the topic at an upcoming public public education night sponsored by the Distress Centre of Durham Region in recognition of Suicide Prevention Week. Speaker Jean Chatterson will address this important issue on Thursday, May 5th at 8:oo p.m. in the Robert McLaughlin McLaughlin Gallery Civic Centre. Ms. Chatterson, who has a M.A. in clinical psychology from the Centre for Suicide Studies in Washington D.C., has worked in the field of suicide research for the past 15 years. Presently she is the acting director for the Toronto East General Hospital Crisis Intervention Unit. She has also worked as the director of the Klinic Crisis Centre located located in Winnipeg. Ms. Chatterson says that she will "discuss the signs that should alert families that they have a depressed child and how to deal with them practically." practically." Refreshments will be served. Jennifer Crawford is a grade 10 student at Bowmanville High School who would like to become a veterinary assistant when she completes her schooling. In order to gain some practical training in this field, she participated in the annual work experience week held by the high school. She is shown here, with a Samoyed patient at the Bowmanville Veterinary Centre. A total of 42 students took part in the work experience program and they were employed in the community at a wide variety of businesses and industries. Some of the welding, drafting and machine shop students were among those who took part in the voluntary program. Mrs. Fairey said the band had been quoted $700 for rental and another $500 for custodial custodial staff for a one night stay at BHS or Clarke High School.
