1 6 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, July 27,1983 Section Two YELVERTON So, what else is new, or more specifically news -- another Yelverton column is "for the birds!" On Father's Day we were presented presented by our daughter with, of all things, a hummingbird hummingbird feeder. We accepted accepted the gift with feigned pleasure and no doubt a quizzical look on our uninspiring uninspiring countenance. What, sez you, is a hummingbird feeder? It is a plastic container container that fits over a plastic bowl in which are several small holes and which is filled with a sweet flavored nectar calculated to attract hummingbirds. To admit that we were slightly skeptical skeptical would be a gross understatement. understatement. Not so! Today we were pleasantly surprised to see a cute little "ruby throat" availing him or herself herself of this fountain of youth and returning over and over again for refills. In fact it already already needs replenishing. Last weekend while travelling along the 401 east of London, Ont. we were surprised to see a mother wild duck sitting on the side of the road in the median between the two three lane highways. As the car in front passed, she jumped or flew up and underneath a whole flock of baby ducklings ducklings sprawled hither and thither. Wonder if they survived survived their trip to safety across the highway? Hope so. On Saturday it was Corrie and your Scribe's pleasure to attend the Van Camp -- Ford wedding in Meaford United Church. The bride and her bridesmaids were beautifully attired and the groom and his escorts were handsome in similar suits. The wedding was postponed postponed about one-half hour because the dopy photographer photographer was late in arriving. arriving. In.the meantime, those wrinkles in our shorts acquired acquired vast new dimensions as we sat an hour in the muggy heat. A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Ford in Meaford. This was followed by a sumptuous wedding dinner and dance in the Meaford Community Centre auditorium. auditorium.
