The cause for this deliberate delay is a stack of game reports which must somehow be transformed into a cogent newspaper column. At last count there were 25 contests completed during the past week and that number was held down by the fact that the entire program for Monday, August 8th, was washed out, otherwise the total would be even greater. A complete rundown rundown of all the action can be found at the close of this column, but first let's review how the Newcastle Colts Clubs fared. This might be best tackled tackled age group by age group. "Squirts: The ÿôüngest members of our club acquitted themselves very well as both the K of C I and K of C II squads won their playoff openers. The K of C I boys hung a 9 -1 defeat on Orono II, a game for which the game sheet disappeared before I could copy the goalscorers. Meanwhile, the K of C II boys defeated Rice Construction 2 - 1 in a very tight match. Newcastle Newcastle goals were scored by Steve Stapleton and Craig Lockhart. As both teams played at home there was a lot of action at the schoolyard. By the time this column is typeset the two squads will have played each other and one of them will have had its first taste of defeat but jperhaps they'll meet again in the final. Atoms: in this age group both Newcastle squads also remain undefeated. The K of C Atoms played two games as they first defeated Wolves by a score of 5 - 2 as Ricky Burns scored three and Brian Buma two for the Colts. J. Bryant and D. Smith scored for the Wolves. On Thursday, the K of C Atoms squeezed out a 3 - 2 victory over Orono I thanks to Brian Buma's two goals plus a single from Gord Sikma. Ricky Burns was instrumental in setting up this goal while Tyler Gibson was outstanding on defence. 10, Mavin lost 15 -16, Thompson Thompson won 13 - 5 over Hughes. Brock lost 17 -17 on an extra end and Bathgate lost 9 - 16. Oke lost his third game 4 -19, Mavin lost to Brock 5 - 16, Hughes beat Bathgate 22 -15 and F. Thompson lost to Sheridan of Lindsay by a wide margin. Winners of the trophy and first prize money were Harry Livingston, Helen Cane and Jean Livingston of Cobourg. Second prize winners were G. Oatway, D. Morrison and Beth Kemp of Oshawa. 3rd prize went to L. Sheridan, Ivy Sheridan and F. Presley of Lindsay. 4th prize was taken by J. Rowland, Ev Churchill and M. Clayton of Port Hope. 5th prize went to M. Brock, N. Brock and Ross Hall of Bowmanville, Bowmanville, while the last prize was won by D. Plummer, E. Charles and E. Buckenham of Port Hope. We would like to thank the ladies who donated tea biscuits biscuits and muffins for the morning coffee and also squares and other goodies for afternoon tea. Our special thanks to Melanie Balser, Win Bird, Doris Wollstein and Dorothy Oke for serving tea and taking drinks out to the greens etc. Thanks also to Pres.
