Monday morning, Aug. 29, Enniskillen was all buzzing because they were about to play host to a Rugby team from Enniskillen, Ireland which was arriving by bus about eleven a.m. On entering the store, Mrs. Marilyn Fitchett was busily finishing a sign that had shamrocks painted painted in the corners ana the reading saying Enniskillen Ireland Welcome to Enniskillen Enniskillen Ontario. As the Voyager bus pulled up and the young men alighted, Paster Joe Lafave welcomed them. They were a group of smart looking young fellows and I met their manager, Mr. Jim Cooper. Enniskillen Ireland is about eighty miles from Belfast and I understand this is the first overseas tour for the Enniskillen Enniskillen Rugby Football Club. Their tour was for a fortnight, they left on a direct flight from Abdergrove to Malton airport at Toronto Wednesday, Aug. 17th and on August 19th played their first game against the Toronto Barbarians. Then they travelled by bus to Montreal and on Tues., Aug. 23rd, played the Montreal Irish. Then on to Ottawa for a match against the Ottawa Indians. Several of the players had on sweaters of the teams they had played and on the return to Toronto, made the stop at my neighbouring village. The ladies had prepared lunch in the Enniskillen store and then pictures and more pictures. Three very young soccer players from the village in their blue shirts had their pictures taken with our Irish guest team. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Wright offered a bushel of apples to the players and I really think Annie and Edgar knew they'd be asked to nave a picture with the boys. Too bad more of us ladies couldn't have thought up a scheme of some kind that surely would have worked. Best wishes were waved as they boarded the bus to go to Toronto and on Tuesday, Tuesday, back home to Ireland. Bowmanville Midgets Lose in O.8.A.
