J V.C. 2139146H Blackstock Area News by Joyce Kelly The day was beautiful, the crowd large and the action packed at this year's Blackstock Fair. A good crowd was in attendance attendance to view the exhibits, concessions and the horse and cattle shows. A good number of Mountjoy relatives held their annual picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Mountjoy on Sunday. They spent the day visiting and ended it with a delicious pot luck dinner. David and MaryLou Kellogg spent a few days at her parent's home, Neil and Noreen Malcolm last week. Last week Vernon and Vera Asselstine returned returned from an eight week vacation of British Columbia, Vancouver Island, Alaska inside to Skagway and a bus tour to Whitehorse, Yukon Territories. Beautiful scenery, glaciers, icebergs, icebergs, humped back whales, killer whales, and dolphins were among many of the sites they saw. They visited their son, Gerald; Vernon's aunt, Anita Asselstine, a nephew, nieces and cousins. Glad to report that Grant Edgerton is home from Port Perry Hospital. Better health is wished for him. Mr. and Mrs. George Clarke, England are visiting her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bailey. They were dinner guests on Mr. and Mrs. Hector Shortridge and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Forder. A number from this area attended the delightful delightful trousseau tea held by Mrs. Ruby Parsons in honour of her daughter, Janet, on Sunday. Sunday. Vernon and Vera Asselstine along with Vernon's mother, Mrs. Violet Poole, Belleville, attended the wedding of Vernon's niece's son, Randy on the weekend at Kingston. Visiting from Apel- dooen, Holland, are Dick and Tini Renes. For one month they will be visiting the Renes family in Blackstock and the LaLonde family in Whitby. Miss Susan Sheen hosted a reunion of the leaders and girls who trekked to England last summer. Miss Annand and her friend from England have been visiting points in Canada and were able to visit with several of the girls. The Durham Region Horseback Riding for the Handicapped Association Association will be holding its fifth annual Open House on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. at Hoskin Stables. Everyone interested in learning about the work of the Association with the handicapped or watching the riders display display their skills is welcome to attend. Also experienced riders with their own horses and sponsors are being sought for the annual Ride-A-thon at Hoskin Stables on Sept. 24. Proceeds will be used to cover the cost of ' riding lessons, special equipment and insurance for the handicapped handicapped riders. For further information call 986-5558, Hoskin Stables. Kendal News Intended for Last Week Rev. A. M. Tizzard who hoped to be able to carry on until October has had to take a disability pension due to health reasons. However, he and Mrs. Tizzard will be living in the Newtonville Manse until the end of the year and will welcome visitors at anytime. Mrs. Lynda King of Oshawa who is a commissioned not ordained minister will be conducting conducting services at Kendal, Shiloh and Newtonville. In the meantime, the Pastoral Relations Committee are hoping to get a new minister minister in the near future. Mrs. Edna Dobson visited with Catherine Stewart on Sunday and both attended the art display at the Art Loft at the Dikadel farm. Mrs. Marguretta Stevens and her sister Mrs. Florence Porteoris, Toronto had dinner with Catherine Stewart on Tuesday of last week. Mrs. Julia Jackson was a caller in the evening. Last Wednesday evening, the U.C.W. sponsored a trip at the Cullen's Gardens. There were about seventeen people for the trip. The scene in the evening with all the lights on was like a Fairyland. They also visited the gift shop. Mrs. M. Stevens, Mrs. Florence Porteous and Miss Catherine Stewart attended the dinner last Thursday at the Durham Complex in Orono. It was followed by a delightful music program, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Rev. Dr. Norman Mackenzie Mackenzie and Mrs. Mackenzie are at their home in Kendal for a while, About 14 ladies, last Tuesday Tuesday night, met at the Jade Gardens on 35-115 to entertain entertain as our guest Mrs, Helen Henderson who is leaving Kendal to live in Brechin with her husband John. They have sold their home last month and bought a condominium there. We all wish them the best, and we will surely miss them. She was presented with a gold chain by the ladies present and a nice corsage made by Mrs. Eleanor Foster. About 90 people gathered at "Gayoleen" home of Mrs. Del Gosson last Saturday night for a corn and weiner roast. They were from Pringle and Booth photography and art studio from Don Mills, Ont. Music was provided by a disc jockey from Oshawa. The 50 foot patio was covered with a canopy and surrounded by colored lights, flowers and trees, and made a perfect setting for the party. They also had a large bon fire by the pond. Everything went well and everyone had a most enjoyable evening, dancing till about 1 o'clock, Mrs. G. Dekkers, mother of Mrs. John Gosson, was called home in Holland due to the illness of her dad. Miss Jane Dekkers is now residing in Oshawa. Mr. Brian Hannan from Hamilton, Ont, and his little brother Sean visited with his aunt Mrs. Del Gosson during last week. They were spending a week at a cottage on Rice Lake. Brian belongs to the big brother association in Hamilton. Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hawkins of Port Hope spent Monday evening with Miss Catherine Stewart at her home. Friends and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. R. Elliott will be pleased to know that they are both at home recuperating after having quite a session, being in hospitals in Toronto for Mrs. Elliott and Bowmanville Bowmanville for Mr. Elliott. We all wish them a complete recovery recovery and are glad to see you back.
