Yelverton News East Beach Residents Launch Massive Clean Up Projects The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, September 14,1983 5 Well, another school year has rolled around and with it a few changes are to be expected. Others return to school with mixed emotions: -- the school teachers with limited dread, no doubt, faced with coping with their charges for the next ten months. Howard and Eileen Malcolm Malcolm hosted a garden party on Saturday evening in the form of a BBQ followed by a social evening. It also provided provided an opportunity for many of us to meet and get to know a little better our northern neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sopoci, their five daughters and their mates and families. Miss Lana Malcolm and Glenn Warburton entertained the group of some 35 guests to a number of musical numbers numbers with their guitar and violin music and Lana's vocalizing vocalizing on many numbers. We were fortunate fortunate to have a seat near the stage where we could get an excellent view and listen to the two hour concert put on by Willie and his five fellow musicians. We were amazed at the diverse crowd attending attending from "just kids" to middle middle aged clods like us. The standing ovation Willie and band received at the close of the concert was a pretty good indication of the loyalty loyalty of his fans. Fourteen members answered the roll call. In the Treasurer's report report it showed where two dozen communion glasses had been purchased and the quilt sold for $200. Thank-you notes were read from Hazel Gray for fruit, from Ann Hurren for flowers flowers for opening day at her toy shop in Lindsay, from Olga and Paul Sopocci's for use of dishes with $25 enclosed. enclosed. Our group is asked to have a booth at Brian and Jim Gray's sale on Sept. 17th. We are each to bake two pies and sandwiches will be made at the church. During the course of her stay in long-term housing, Monique learned to deal with the everyday pressures of running a household, going to school, and working through routine problems with other residents. Over the period of two years, having held several voluntary positions and having achieved excellent grades at school, Monique showed signs of being ready to live in the community on her own. Since that time, Monique has kept up a regular correspondence correspondence with Housing Staff. She is currently undergoing a Registered Nurses Training Course.
