Mix or Match TYRONE NEWS (Intended for last week) Girl Guide Elizabeth Drysdale, daughter of Sheldon and Pat Drysdale, was presented with the Religion in Life badge by Mr. J. Lafave at church service on Sunday, May 20th. Dressed in .full uniform, Elizabeth graciously accepted the award as Mr. Lafave congratulated, her on the considerable amount of work which earns the Religion in Life badge. Miss Debbie Roy acted as organist on Sunday morning. Contribution by the young people is very much appreciated. Friends and neighbours will help Dawn Vaneyk celebrate her graduation from Vancouver School of Theology and Ordination into the ministry of the United Church of Canada at a social evening at the Old Tyrone Hall on May 26th, beginningat7:00p.m. Miss Dawn Vaneyk M. Div., was ordained into the ministry of the United Church of Canada at Hamilton Conference meeting held at Brock University, St. Catharines, Ont., on Wednesday evening, May 16, 1984. Participating in the Laying on of Hands for Dawn were Rev. John Buttars, minister of Harcourt United Church, Guelph, Ont., Mrs, Doris Singleton representing Harcourt United Church, Rev. Museum Planning for Bicentennial Events Catherine Denny Marion Veinol, curator of the Bowmanville Museum is cooing about the Canada Packers Quill Collection that will be on display June 23rd at the Museum. The collection, comprised of 15 prize winning quilts, will be exhibited in recognition of the traditional and continuing Canadian craft. Among these quilts is the "Grand Champion" which won over 15 district championships and was purchased by Canada Packers Inc. for $700. This is only one of the countless countless number of activities being organized by the museum in commemoration of Ontario's Bicentennial. The 30 volunteers 'and the two summer employees have been hard at work preparing for a festive summer beginning beginning with a lawn and hake sale on June 2nd and including such heritage-oriented events as the Bicentennial-Victorian Tea which will be held June 24th at the Museum, Much of the museum's efforts have gone into the organization of Bicentennial Day which will be held at Port Darlington Marina July 1st. Among the more adventurous activities planned for that day is the dinghy contest down the daring Bowmanville Creek for voyageurs of any age, Although these Bicentennial celebrations are enjoyable and informative, the museum itself is perhaps the best place to see our heritage preserved, especially during this season which is packed full of concerts, concerts, exhibits and craft shows for all to enjoy. Dr. Bill Crockett, Vancouver School of Theology was also present. The sermon, entitled "The Sound of Trying", was delivered by Rev. Robert F. Smith, Shaughnessy United Church, Vancouver. The thirteen newly ordained ministers each administered communion at a table of choice of the congregation. Dawn will begin pastoral duties on a three point charge at Manitowaning, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, in July. Twelve tables of euchre were in play at the Old Tyrone Hall on Monday evening, May 21, 1984, with the following results: M. United Church Women The May meeting of Tyrone U.C.W. was held on Wednesday, May 9,1984, in the C.E. Wing of the Church. President Jane Woodley opened the meeting with the reading "I have a vision", written by United Church Moderator Clarke MacDonald. Committee reports were given and announcements were: caterings on June 2nd and June 16th; Observer subscriptions are being taken by Bessie Vaneyk and Kay Lafave; the U.C.W. will be taking a trip to Cullen's Country Burn on the regular meeting date, June 13th - if you wish to go please let Phyllis Haines or Dorothy Rundle know by June 6th. There is a box in the church vestibule for the collection of used eye glasses and Campbell soup labels, and used stamps. The annual special Lenten offering was received. Marion Hoar and Kay Lafave led the devotional period with a Mother's Day theme. A quiz on mothers and children of the Bible was won by Jacqueline Vaneyk, enjoyed by everyone. Our guest speaker could not attend due to illness but she graciously gave notes of her address, "Early Methodism in Upper Canada and Darlington Area" to Marion Hoar, who read to us the very interesting history of many of our neighbouring churches as well as Tyrone. Our thanks to Helen Baker. A quiz on Ontario look place net ween the teams of "Upper Canada" and "Lower Canada", with everyone agreeable on a lie finish. A delicious lunch was served by Marion and Kay and a social lime followed.
