The Toros first opponent was a team from Huntsville who caught the Bowmanville squad on one of their off-days, outskating them as well as outshooting them 25 - 10 to take a well deserved 4 - 3 win. Leading the Bowmanville attack with two goals was Brooke Clemens and Shawn McFadyen with one. A single assist was awarded to Todd Banks. Unfortunately Brooke was not able to continue his scoring prowess the following day. A hard tumble into the boards late in the third period earned him a bruised knee and an ambulance ride to the local hospital. Although somewhat hampered by a set of crutches, Brooke was still able to lead the cheering for his teammates teammates on Surtday., The Toros returned to Minden on Sunday, Jan. 13 determined to avenge their lack lustre performance of the previous afternoon. Playing much better as a team, the Local Lads earned a convincing convincing 4 - 1 victory over St. Annes from the Peterborough Church Hockey League, firing 24 shots at the opposing goal. Chris Albin played a strong game in the Bowmanville goal, stopping all but one of the 12 shots directed his way. Sparking the offence was Todd Banks with two goals, one assist, Brad Banks one goal, one assist and Tom White, who is probably still celebrating his first marker of the season, a booming slap-shot from 30 feet out. Bryan James who, along with Tom White and Chris Forsey, anchored a very strong defence, picked up two assists. Shawn McFadyen also earned an assist. In the Consolation Final, the Bowmanville Boys came out flying from the opening face- off. Playing before a packed house they continually swarmed the opposition only to come away empty handed. Outshooting St. Alphonus from Peterborough 16 to 8 over the first two periods the Toros were certainly unlucky not to be ahead by four goals. However However the score remained deadlocked deadlocked at 0 - 0. With 4:08 left on the clock, the opposition converted converted on 1 a goal mouth scramble to lead 1-0. Not to be denied, the Toros stormed right back and, with 1:25 on the clock, Brad Banks sent the game into overtime with a hard, low shot past the St. Alphonus goalkeeper. With two minutes gone in sudden death, the Peterborough Club finally notched the winner despite a valliant effort by Bowmanville nelminder Jason Hiscock, who got a piece of the high hard 20 footer before it hit the twine. Final score St, Alphonus 2 Toros 1. Well done Bowmanville! Bowmanville! Wear the Consolation Runner-Up medals proudly. There are more tournaments coming up. In the only league contest of the week, the Toros hosted the league leading and undefeated Markham "Green Machine" on Wednesday, January 9 at the Darlington Sports Centre.
