Letter to the Editor Tyrone, Ont. May 11/85 Queries to the Mayor and Councillors of the Town of Newcastle: As residents of the Village Village of Tyrone, we once again recently paid our taxes, which have once again increased. We assume assume the increase has helped offset the expenses incurred for replacement of half the sidewalk in our village village last year, but thought that since it has been over sixty years since the original original was installed, that perhaps our new half sidewalk might have been paid for before now. If so, was all our money spent for patching potholes? We now understand the Town of Newcastle is selling selling our old Community Hall to a fraternal group which is composed mainly of members from other communities, communities, not local residents, residents, and against the wishes of the people in this community. We can only assume assume that this will no doubt show in a decrease in our taxes or, if not, the surplus will be saved for use in replacing replacing the other half of our sidewalk within the next sixty years. We would point out that the Village has been approached by Wide World of Sports to use the west enders' sidewalk in their next Super Star obstacle obstacle course. With Spirit Day coming up June 8th, no doubt Northwest will win again because of their continuous continuous trek up the broken sidewalk. Getting back to the old hall, as Tyrone residents, whose ancestors provided the property originally for the community's use, if a fraternal group can now buy it for a supper and $1,00, what can the local residents buy for $2.00. There has to be some reason we pay taxes. ....
