A new Drama Camp has been produced especially for young people 12 -16 years of age. Using the University's experienced faculty, professional professional quality theatre and costumes, and props departments, departments, the Drama Camp will provide an immersion experience experience for teenagers keen to work on stage or behind the scenes. There are two, one- week sessions, July 7 -13 and July 14 - 20. "The camp will be an action-packed experience encompassing encompassing performance skills, theatre production, and cultural enrichment," says Brian Smith, academic coordinator. coordinator. His associate, Mary Mulholland is anticipating the thrill of discovering the young peoples' various abilities, then helping them to develop and share these abilities. "It's like introducing them to an aspect of themselves," she explains. "When this experience is combined with the excitement of a new place and new people with shared interests, the results can be exhilarating for the campers." Through practical exercises, exercises, teenagers will gain experience in all aspects of theatre, including scenery building, sound, lighting, and acting. Improvisation, mime and theatre sports will also be explored. A day at the Stratford Festival, complete with a picnic by the Thames River, and a production of Toronto Free Theatre will enable students to analyze the professionals professionals in action. The final day of each session culminates culminates in a production by the campers. To round out the program, movies, recreational recreational swims, outdoor barbeques and out trips are an integral part of the camp. Mary and Brian have extensive extensive experience in acting, directing, and in teaching young people. In addition to teaching at the University of Guelph's Drama Department, Street Dance To be Held In Orono Orono's Park Street will be swinging from early evening into the small hours on July 20th, when the Downtown Business Improvement Improvement Association and the Kinsmen hold a Street Dance. The Dance, which begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 1 a.m., will be preceded by a Sidewalk Sale during the day. The Kinsmen will be selling "beef-on-a-bun" after 5 p.m. At a meeting on May 13th, Newcastle council gave its permission to the D.B.I.A. to proceed with plans for the day's activities. Brian is an assistant director of the Toronto Free Theatre and is writing a doctoral thesis on actor training methods. Mary, who has taught drama in England and Canada, currently teaches courses in acting, children's theatre, and dramatic literature in the University of Guelph's Drama Department. They have also invited specialists to speak on specific theatre subjects. Registration is limited to 40 campers each week, and the deadline for registration is June 1. The Drama Camp is open to both residential and day students. Accommodation and meals are provided in University University residences and cafeterias. Counsellors supervise all recreational, residence life and cultural activities on a ratio of 1:10.
