HAPPENINGS FROM THE VILLAGE OF HAYDON Ceremony of Flags Performed at B.H.S. Club 21 ladies met at the Community Centre May 14th at 8 p.m. with Group 3 in charge. In the absence of Blanche Jones, Val Lloyd read the minutes of the April meeting which were approved. Treasurer Bev Cochrane was also absent so Val read the treasurer's report too. Correspondence was read from the Bowmanville Memorial Hospital Expansion Fund requesting a donation. It was decided to put this off for the moment to see what our financial position is later in the year. It was noted the meeting of the Community Service Planning Board to be held in Haydon Hall has been changed from June 5 to August. A motion was put forward by June Trewin and seconded by Ruby Trewin that $15.00 be donated to the Cancer Society. June Trewin reported our profit from serving lunch at Kay Buttery's May 5th and we are planning to serve lunch at Jim Graham's sale May 18th. It was decided that our ladies would go to Port Hope for lunch at the Legion on May 29th. We will meet at the Community Hall at 11:00 a.m. Val then turned the meeting over to Eileen Blackburn. Jean Slemon entertained us with a piano instrumental - Robin's Return. Roll call was taken - 14 members present and the collection was called for. Then on their way home, called on Sylvia Laverty at their home in Maple Grove. The Laverty's are moving this week. Saturday evening several guests gathered at the Adams' home to help John celebrate his birthday, Congratulations John - strange, just as soon as men reach twenty-one, mum is the word for age. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. John (Dora) White, Courtice called out to the Adams' and Mrs. Carol Lowery, Toronto called on her sister, Diane and John Adams and family. Then in the evening several friends came to the fireworks display at the J. Adams'. Last Monday the 13th, the Brownies, Guides and Pathfinders Pathfinders gathered at Solina Hall for a sumptuous supper and fashion show. Miss Sarah Lloyd proposed a toast to the parents and the fashion show dated back from 1910 to 1985, their seventy-fifth anniversary. Miss Nicola Lloyd modeled her mother's Brownie uniform. Mrs. Norma Kennedy and Brandee were present at the mother-daughter Brownie Banquet at Solina Hall and enjoyed the tasty roast beef dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Campbell of Orono visited with Mr. Cecil Kennedy on Monday. They had returned on Friday from their trip to Holland to attend the 40th anniversary year of the Liberation of the Netherlands and of Europe - and this year it was held in Holland. Wednesday evening, Nick and Brandee Kennedy visited with Aunt Linda McCormick of Newcastle. Miss Brandee Kennedy attended the weekend, weekend, Saturday to Monday, at OBITUARY MINNIE MARGUERITE KELUSKY On Saturday, May 11th, 1985, Minnie Marguerite Kelusky, aged 79, passed away in the North Hastings District Hospital. Born at Bancroft, she was the daughter of Joseph and Ruttan (Hannah) Lindsay, and was the wife of Walter Charles Kelusky and the late John W. Reid. A resident from 1928-1948 at Huntsville, she has been residing since then in the Bancroft area. Surviving are her children Doreene Fester, Huntsville, John Reid Dwight, Fern Rutledge, Bancroft, Jean Fortin (Joe), Denbiegh, Robert Reid, Madoc, Marie Resnuk, (Greg), Madoc, Faye Higgins, Bancroft, Dan Reid, Port Sydney, Joan Otto (Clifford), Port Sydney, William Reid, Aylmer, P.Q., and Marlene Davis, (Lloyd) Emsdale, a brother Ross Lindsay, St. Petersburg, Florida, 44 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by Dorothy Martin and Glenn Reid. A member of St, Paul's United Church, she was a devoted wife and mother and keenly interested in her home. The Reverend Peter Tink officiated at the funeral services services held on Tuesday, at the W. E. Wiggins Funeral Home, Bancroft. Pallbearers were grandsons Scott and Ron Kelusky, Craig Rosnuk, Greg Sharpe, John Gary Reid and Jim Davis. Interment St. Mark's Cemetery, Paudash. Mrs. Keith Miller of Sunderland Sunderland visited with Mr. and Mrs. Brent Cochrane, Cindy and Kathy for a few days. Nice to know Bev's knee operation went over so well. Mr. and Mrs. Lars Christensen Christensen spent the holiday weekend in Oakville visiting with David and Mary Ellen Atkinson. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Laverty and family joined with their neighbours "the Adams" for the fireworks on Sunday evening. We'd like to say to the Laverty's - we hope they'll enjoy their home in Maple Grove where they'll be moving this weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Graham held their sale Saturday in between rain showers - with Cliff Pethick and Charlie Reid as Auctioneers. Haydon ladies served coffee and hot doggies and pop for the younger folk. The weather wasn't too cooperative cooperative but at least we didn't get hail. Mr. and Mrs. George (Paula) Hartley, Natassia and Nathan from Kilworthy were Sunday and overnight guests with Mr. and Mrs. Ian Graham and boys. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Spry and Ashley, Toronto, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Potts. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Slemon were Sunday supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Trewin. More than 140 cadets and officers paraded in the Bowmanville High School parking lot, displaying the flags of Canada. Above, Cadets prepare for inspection following a gun salute exercise. Tyrone U.C.W. was held on Wednesday, May 8,1985, with Ms. Stephanie Stow, Assistant Librarian of the Bowmanville Branch of the Newcastle Library, as guest speaker. President Jane Woodley opened the meeting with the reading, "Success in Life." During the Devotional period we were reminded by Jean Slemon that "God's greatest gift to man is the soil." Blanche Jones introduced Ms. Stephanie Stow who passed around a number of books on a variety of subjects for perusal. Ms. Stow explained the many services and activities activities available at the Library. Blanche Jones thanked our guest and Ms. Stow was assured that "we'd see her at the Library." Jane Woodley opened the business period with the reading reading of an article which discussed discussed the values likely found in a closely knit agricultural community. A report was given on the recent Women's Seminar where Ian Howard, a member of the Council oh Mind Abuse (COMA), was guest speaker on the subject of cults. Several women from our community attended the meeting and found it very interesting. It was announced that a catering is scheduled for May 25th, the Sunday School Friendship Service on May 26th at 10:30 a.m. The church service on June 2nd will be conducted by the Education Committee at 11:15 a.m. and there will also be an informal evening church service on that day. On June 9th the Orange Lodge will parade to church. June 9,1985, is the 60th Anniversary of the forming of the United Church of Canada. June 16th is Communion Communion Sunday, when Rev. Susan Robinson will share in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Communion. The next U.C.W. meeting will be June 12,1985, when we shall go to Parkwood Estate, Oshawa, for a guided tour and luncheon. Those wishing to go please let Phyllis Haines or Jane. Woodley know by June 5th. Drivers will be needed. The meeting closed with lunch and a social time. BETHESDA PRESENTATION On Saturday evening, May 18,1985, Bethesda community neighbours gathered at the home of Mrs. Nellie Godrich in honour of Jim and Sheila Vandergaast (nee Feddema), and Sid Feddema and his fiancee, Debbie Hamden, Orono, Ont. Presentations were made to the happy couples and a social time was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fedemma and Carl, have recently moved from Bethesda to Blackstock, while Mike and Laura Khouri have recently moved into their newly built home in the Bethesda community. community. SENIOR CITIZENS Tyrone Senior Citizens Club will meet at the Legion Hall, Port Hope, Ont., on Wed., June 5, for their regular monthly meeting which will commence with luncheon at 12:30 noon.
