i The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, May 22,1985 Twins Mark 65th Birthday On May 11, 1985, a surprise birthday party was held in honor of Verna Gibbs and Vernon Stacey's 65th birthday. Around 150 guests were there. They received many cards with money and gifts. A lovely lunch and birthday cake was served. The evening was spent dancing and renewing old acquaintances. acquaintances. A good time was had by all. Enniskillen S. S. Holds Anniversary On Sunday, May 19th, our annual Sunday School Anniversary was held at 2 o'clock in the afternoon with Mrs. Merle Avery as our Superintendent. Our prelude was given by Mrs. Ulah Chambers at the organ and then a duet was given by Pauline Beckett on the flute and Jim Avery on the piano. The call to worship was given by Jim Avery. The Doxology "Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow" was next in the order of service. Pauline Beckett gave the Invocation, Lisa Rekker announced the hymns throughout the service. We sang the hymn "Birds Are Singing." Our guest soloist, Miss Lynn McLaughlin, gave a beautiful number at this time accompanied by her mother, Mrs. L. McLaughlin. Prayer of Confession was given by Penny Beckett. Our Sunday school choir sang "Glad To Be Me." Amanda Haskins read the scriptural lesson - Philippeans 3:4-14. Rev. Mark Elliot gave the Pastoral Prayer. We enjoyed another number by our guest soloist, Lynn McLaughlin. We then sang the hymn "Magic Penny." We were pleased to have as our guest speaker, Rev. Mark Elliot, from the Maple Grove - Ebenezer pastoral charge. Between Rev. Mark Elliot and Pastor Joe Lafave the message was in the form of a Bible quiz between the boys and girls of the older Sunday School classes. The choir sang as their anthem, "I Love You, Lord Jesus." After the offering offering was received by four of the children from the Sunday School we sang the offering hymn. and the offeratory prayer was given by Scott Rekker. The announcements were read by Nikki Lafave. We sang the hymn "Kum Ba Yah." Merle Avery called on Pastor Joe for the Benediction. Benediction. A very special Thank You to Rev. Mark Elliot and Miss Lynn McLaughlin for helping us to celebrate our anniversary this year. Our Superintendent, Merle Avery, thanked all those who helped in any way to make our day such a success. Announcements: I. Next Sunday, May 26th, at 10:30 a.m. Tyrone Sunday School will celebrate its Friendship Service, with Pastor Joe Lafave as guest speaker. This will be a joint service and there will be no service at Enniskillen that day. II. The Last Evening Service Service of Praise for the season is scheduled for June 2, beginning beginning at 8:00 p.m. at Tyrone U.C. All are welcome as we continue to praise God with the "Old" hymns of the church. III. Our third annual Enfield Community Church Service will take place on Sunday, June 9th at Enfield U.C. beginning at 7:00 p.m. Guest speaker will be Pastor Joe Lafave with special music provided by Floyd Lloyd and members of the Country All Stars. There will be a time of fellowship immediately following following the service. IV. "4-II" begins again. The theme is "Score With Safety." Enniskillen begins on May 28th at 8:00 p,m. at the church. It is likely in the book prepared for the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers to sell in this area. They cost only $4.00 and are available from the groups in the area and from their leaders. VI. Sunday, June 16 - Father's Day • The sacrament of the Lord's Supper will he celebrated at both churches. Mrs. Susan Robinson of Oshnwn will officiate. A Pro 80th wedding anniver sary celebration for Bud and Ulah Chambers was held on May 18th at Memorial Park, Bowmanville, given by their family, Randy, Joyce, A1 and Michelle Junkin, and Carl and girlfriend, Angie. The evening was spent in dancing, the music was by the Entertainers. Entertainers. Beautifully decorated cakes were done by Joyce in honour of the occasion, they were à guitar, baby grand piano, and a three layer cake with the top being a bell sitting on a pedestal.
