Despite inclement weather the Legion boys put out a great effort. They won the first game quite handily by a score of 11-3. Chris Hall was on the mound and went the distance, as he faced 32 batters in seven innings, allowing seven hits, two walks and recorded seven strike-outs. Defensively, the entire team displayed a lot of potential as they played as a unit. Offensively, the Legion boys showed a lot of spirit and aggressiveness. They picked up seven hits on 24 at bats, 11 walks and 11 stolen bases. The boys were not shy as they took advantage of any opportunities opportunities Cobourg allowed. The second game appeared as though it would be a blowout blowout for Cobourg as they scored eight runs in the first inning. Mark Tripp made his debut on the mound and was relieved by Tim Smith in the fourth. The Legion boys settled down, allowing only five more runs. Offensively, 'they came on strong with another seven hits on 24 at bats, three walks and eight stolen bases. They scored nine runs in six innings and unfortunately were denied their final bats in the seventh due to rain. Thus, they recorded recorded a 13-9 loss. Hobbs News On Tuesday, May 21 the -boy high-jumpers went against the bar to see who could qualify for the June track meet. On Wednesday it was the girls turn to compare compare their skills. Thursday was the day when we picked the fastest group of boys and girls from the school by running the 60m and the 100m. Our baseball teams are making good progress as the days go by. It is going to be excellent competition for the Pines and Bowmanville. We have quite a good group of athletes. On Friday, May 17 we had our annual book sale. The purpose of having this is to sell old books in order to make money to purchase new books for our library. Staff meetings are all the students ever hear about lately. The reason for so many meetings is because awards for graduation are being discussed. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, the museum-mobile will visit our school. This is a portable step into the past that each student will visit. The Gr. 8's will also be travelling soon to Toronto in June for a tour of the Toronto Toronto Sun and Toronto Star newspaper buildings and then to Fort York.
