On May 24, the Tykes travelled travelled to Port Hope for their first game of the 1985 season. Bowmanville had previously played Port Hope, losing 25 to 4 in a lop-sided exhibition game, this game was a much more even game with Bowmanville Bowmanville and Port Hope trading trading the lead up to the fifth inning. The final score ended up Port Hope 14 and Bowmanville Bowmanville 7 with Adam Mohns registering registering 8 strike-outs. On May 25th the Cobourg All Stars came into Bowmanville at Soper Creek Park to participate participate in the first game of the All Star Baseball Week. This was grand day for ball in Bowmanville with a large turn out of supporting fans from both teams, with refreshments refreshments being sold by the Baseball Baseball Mothers Assoc. The game ended in the fifth inning due to a time curfew of 2 hrs. with our Tykes piling up 21 runs to Cobourg 12. All the players played exceptionally fine baseball with few errors and base running. Our pitcher Jimmy Ovenden threw a str ong game, striking out 9 batters batters and had a good fielding performance. We feel that if the boys keep playing as a team and maintain maintain their desire, performance and commitment to playing the game of baseball it should be an enjoyable summer. Busload of Quebec Students to Spend Four Days Here Late Monday afternoon, 24 Grade Six students from Ecole Dominique-Savio, Grand-Mere, Quebec arrived at Ontario Street Public School where they were greeted by staff members, His Worship Mayor Rickard, School Board. Trustee Hal McKnight and a number of local parents who would be billeting them here until Friday. This was a return cultural exchange trip, so it was a reunion time for local students and visitors. They will be touring General Motors in Oshawa, the Ontario Science Centre, Darlington Nuclear Hydro Generating Station, Wonderland, Bowmanville Zoo and doing walking tours of the town.
