The Durham Region Family YMCA is placing a great deal of emphasis on their leadership leadership training programs this summer. The YMCA has been in the leadership business since its inception in Canada in the 1850's. We have over 100 years' experience in camping. Boys ana girls from 14 to 16 years of age will be challenged by the Counsellor-in-Lea der- ship Training (C.I.L.T.) program. program. The program's design is based on the philosophy the Durham Region Family YMCA. We are committed to the child's growth and development, development, to fostering fellowship fellowship and a sense of community and to developing leadership potential. Participants will learn skills that will benefit them throughout their lifetime. lifetime. The program is a rigorous one which will offer a challenge challenge to any applicant. A well qualified director will plan the overall development of the training process. The C.I.L.T. candidate can expect to learn such leadership skills as group-leading, story-telling, game-leading, song-leading, and effective communication. Camp activities will include hiking, orienteering, firebuilding, firebuilding, swimming and over nights. An atmosphere fostering fostering social skills and self-confidence self-confidence will be ever present. Practical experience in groupleading groupleading will be gained while working directly with one of our well trained counsellors. The C.I.L.T. will learn how to deal with children, how to motivate them, and how to have fun with them. Candidates will be expected to complete assignments and projects pertaining to leadership leadership and camp skills. Evaluation Evaluation will be an ongoing process throughout the session, and upon successful completion, the C.I.L.T. will receive a diploma and be recommended as future camp staff. Thé program is four weeks in duration, Monday to Fri~ day. The first session, July 2 to July 26 is offered at both our day camp locations - Heber Downs and Enniskillen Conservation Conservation Areas. The second session is offered only at Heber Down Conservation Area, July 29 to August 23. The day camp bus service will transport the C.I.L.T. to and from camp each day. Rutherford was attending the Bay of Quinte Conference so was unable to be with us. Representatives from the Gideon's Bible Society, Mr. Marvin Harp and Mr. Evert Stoker, conducted the service. The choir sang. A short piece of tree trunk, all chewed by a beaver was the topic for the children's story, telling how God had provided good teeth for the beaver to assist him and how God provides provides for us if we serve him. Mr. Stoker went on to talk on the subject, "To Know Him." He told us to know Jesus was to love him and to love him was to serve him and to serve him was to tell others about him. He spoke of the different sizes and styles of bibles that are printed by the firm and how each serves a purpose in different places as little white bibles for nurses, small colored ones for students, brown ones in hotels, red in other places such as jails, hospitals, etc. Mr. R. Mr. Ian Barkwell brought his Oshawa raiders lobb team to play and while waiting were with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barkwell. Barkwell. After the tournament they came back to Barkwell's and had a bon fire and camped out for the night. They reported a good time. Mr. and Mrs. H. Quantrill spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. H.
