Forest Centre -- The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority and the Ministry of Natural Resources have signed a seven year lease for the continued Ministry use of the Forest Centre near Kendal. The Ministry uses the Centre for their Junior Ranger program during July and August. The ministry will install a new fridge, two ovens, a deep fryer and a range unit at no cost to the Authority. In addition the ministry will pay an annual rent of $5,000. Bowmanville Masters Earn Medals Branch 178 Pee Wees Tie Bowmanville Legion Pee Wees played home and home ties with the Trenton team in May. The first game played in Bowmanville was a 2 - 2 tie and featured a no-hitter by Scott Miller. Bowmanville had runners in scoring position on 3rd base in the 6th and 7th innings but were unable to get them home. Miller had one of the five hits given up by Evan Robinson of Trenton and singles also went to David McWilliams, Martin D'Entremont, Darren Keates and Brendan Donohue. The runs were scored by D. Keates and D'Entremont. In Trenton the two teams played another tight game ending in a 5-5 tie. Bowmanville rapped out 11 hits in this one led by Paul Woodlock, Jason Kiely, and Jim Shaw who each had two hits. Martin D'Entremont, Darren Keates, Adam Estabrooks, Ian Aida and Glen Keates had one hit apiece. Scott Miller pitched another strong game going 3-'A innings and Jason Kiely followed with 3-% innings of one hit pitching. Bowmanville Legion Pee Wees dropped both ends of a doubleheader recently in Kingston. In the first game, Paul Woodlock pitched a nine hitter and had 3 for 4 at the plate and two stolen bases but Kingston played very sound defensively, allowing only four runs while they took full advantage of Bowmanville lapses to run up 11 runs. Darren Keates had a strong day at the plate collecting two hits for the Legion and brother Glen had a hit as well as George Evans. The winning pitcher was John McNea who also had a double. Dale Sands was 2 for 4 and Mike Neil cracked a long triple to right centre. In the second game, Kingston pitcher Steve Carroll tossed a no-hitter at Bowmanville. The lanky fastballer had excellent control of his pitches and walked only two while striking out 14. Kingston put the game away for Carroll in the 3rd inning when they scored 11 runs on 6 hits and 4 errors. Sands had 3 for 4 including a double and Sean Consack, Ron Fateaux and Steve Carroll each added two hits apiece. George Evans pitched three innings in relief of Scott Miller giving up 3 runs on 5 hits. Baseball Results In House League Pee Wee action at Memorial Park on Monday, June 10, Lions Club defeated Checkers Variety 7-1. Nicky Dennis and Tony Dyer combined for a 16 strikeout one hitter. Kevin Maynard powered Lions Club with a 3 run homer. Steve Bizi ruined the no-hitter in the fourth behind behind Steve McCullough's fine pitchingCfor Checkers). Tuesday, June 11th saw the Bowmanville Midgets struggle struggle through eight innings of steady drizzle to come out on the short end of a 15-6 game in Port Hope. Things looked good for the first inning and one half when we were leading 5-1. The bottom half of the third was all Port Hope's as they took over to the tune of 9-5. Troy Foster and Mike Gallant shared the pitching duties but did not receive much support as several miscues were made in the field. Hits were shared by David Fairey, Mike Gallant Gallant with two, Kevin Smith and Mike Knight. The second loss came on Saturday to Ajax to the tune of 9-4. Tony Bender started, going four innings and giving up 5 runs. David Fairey came on in relief, allowing four runs for the remainder of the game. The highlights of the game was Phil Bird's four for four performance at the plate and David Fairey's 3-4 effort. Flashing back to Wednesday Wednesday when Peterborough was in town, we will finish on a very positive note. Bowmanville Bowmanville played their strongest game to date defensively, offensively offensively and on the mound. Mike Gallant went the distance, distance, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits. Mike struck out four and walked six. Singles went to Scott Webster, who caught a steady game, Troy Foster(2), Kevin Smith(3), Scott Veals and Danny Annis with one each. Philip Bird contributed a stand-up triple. The Bowmanville Midgets are molding into a very respectable respectable team. With continued team spirit and co-operation I'm sure there will be many more successful games like this one. Wednesday evening at 6:15 Oshawa is in town and the locals travel to North Bay on Saturday for a tournament. Soccer News John's Petro Canada Atoms are really flying high. Hampton Hampton took on the Bowmanville Spurs June 5th and played to a 4-0 win. Goalie Ian Freeburn picked up his first shut out of the season. Richard Bateman chalked up two goals and Jamie Jamie Mercer and Neil Gerrits both drew one apiece. Honourable Honourable mention to the fine defensive defensive play by Max Balson and Elton Goemans. Also Stephen Burns who set up some excellent excellent plays. June 12th saw Hampton kick off against another unbeaten team, Tyrone. Both teams played an even and exciting end to end game up until the final 10 mins, of play when Hampton seemed to have that extra stamina and put home 3 more goals to win the game 7-4. Oddfellows Earn Two Wins On June 4th, the Oddfellows Bears mauled Orono 18 - 7 in Pee Wee Bantam Houseleague Baseball.
