TYRONE <1-11 SCORE WITH SAFETY CLUB-FIRST MEETING The Score Willi Safety club ! to recognize International Youth Year and the contribution contribution that youth can make to safe homes and communities by being aware of many safety measures. There are six members out of which four are part of the executive. President-Krista McHolm, Vice-President-Karen Arnold, Secretary-Nancy Pleasance, Press Reporter-Stephen McHolm. At this meeting we stressed safety in the home such as hazardous products and symbols, symbols, electrical safety, appliances, appliances, falls, poisonous house plants, and what to do in case of a power failure. For our home activity we were to find five household items that display a hazardous product label, find five hazards hazards around the house, and make a list of emergency telephone telephone numbers. Our second meeting is on June 19 at 7:00 p.m. at again, Tyrone Church. Letter to the Editor Dear Johnny: Our intrepid reporter Norm Smith and wife Evelyn have celebrated the opening of our lawn bowling season by hiking off to England for four months. They certainly have a great time over there and Norm has admitted, under close questioning, that this may be their last trip, We do I not begrudge them their holiday holiday and look forward to the time when we will be enjoying their company. For this season, yours truly , will be reporting the men's activities, Marg Nicks will do likewise for the ladies. So far, we have not had a great season. season. There was quite a lot of winter damage to the greens which are only now responding responding to the tender and loving care they have received. Our lawn mower went on the fritz and it will cost over $500.00 for repairs. The loaner we are using does not do as good a job. If you think the repair bill is high a new machine is worth over $2,500.00. This is one of the interesting things in running running a small club-something called making ends meet. Our first tournament was on June 22 for the Fred Cole Memorial Trophy. This was a men's pairs event and there was an entry of 14 teams, 3 from Bowmanville, 3 from Oshawa, 3 from Port Hope, 2 from Lindsay and Whitby and 1 from Cobourg. In game one Oke (Bow.) won over Cartwright (Whitby) 19 to 12. Hughes went down to Jiggins (Port Hope) 14-11 and Hall walloped Rowland (Port Hope) 25-9. Terwillegar (Osh.) did likewise to Elsden (Lindsay) (Lindsay) 21-6. Morrison (Osh.) had no problem with Sheridan (Lindsay) winning 18-5. Matching winners against winners Morrison now plays Oke and after 3 ends it is 9-0 and it winds up Morrison 20 Oke 4. Elsden had something of a record, 26-2 ovçrSheridan. Town (Port Hope) had no trouble with Hughes. Down 5-1 after 3 ends it wound up 20-8. Hall had a good game with Terwillegar taking the final 3 ends to win 21-17. In the final game, Morrison continued his high scoring with a 23-9 win over Hall. This gave Morrison a count of 59 plus 2 which was good enough for first place. Meantime, Hamill of Whitby hung on to beat Town 12-11, made it two in a row beating Jeggins 17-7 and a clean sweep with a 17-15 win over Hoskin (Cobourg). In this game it was 17-5 after 9 ends and Hoskin counted 10 in the last 5 ends to make it close. Hamill was second high 3 game winner. Terwillegar beat Oke 16-10 in their final game which gave him 54 points and high two game winner. Despite the loss to Morrison, Hall wound up with 51 plus 4 points good enough for second prize for two wins. Hall's partner incidentally was P. Bathgate. The very nice prizes for Morrison and his partner J. Morton were donated by the Cole family. Marg Perris supplied supplied the refreshments which were served by some of the ladies section. The rain held off until the third and final draw was completed-a well planned day. Johnny Morrison who won 3 games and scored 59 plus 2 points might not agree with my thoughts re the condition of the greens. Sheridan, who scored only 16 points while losing 3 games, would be inclined inclined to say "now there's a guy who knows what he is talking about". All of which may prove something, Morgan eu*!* SSStsis- "BEST SELECTION - LOWEST PRICES ANYWHERE AT" !
