Mr. Leslie Richardson, Wellandport, was a Thursday visitor with his cousin, Miss Dorothy Trenwith. Patients in hospitals include Lois Martin, Aresta Williams, Harold Couch, Mabel Wade. Mr. Ernest Spencer has returned from a vacation in Largo, Florida. Mr.' Art Van Dolder, Chicago, was a week-end guest of the Stanley Powell's. Harold Powell has returned to Chicago after a three-week visit at home. On Sunday the Powell's had a family get- together when all were home, the Markle's from Scarborough, Scarborough, the Wayne Hunt's from Pontypool, Judy Powell and Jill Coombes from Bowmanville. Mr. and Mrs. David Milton, Ian and Sarah, of Ottawa, and David's parents from Drum- bo, were recent visitors with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Murray Paterson, Several Newcastle residents enjoyed the Newtonville Women's Institute bus trip last Wednesday. An early start ensured the group that they were first to arrive at Cullen Barns. Noon meal, especially the bread, was much enjoyed at Town and Country. The afternoon was spent shopping at Markville Centre. Mrs. Olive Henderson thanked Madeleine Buckley for organizing this good bus trip. It was a good day! Mr. and Mrs. Tracey Embley, Fenelon Falls, visited on Saturday with his mother, Mrs. Reta Embley. . Miss Cathy Scott, Toronto spent several days last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Scott. Last Monday, Mrs. Kathleen Kathleen Kimball entertained her nieces and their children. Attending this luncheon were Donna Bright, David and Kimberley, Oshawa, Irene Peel, Michael and Danielle, of Newcastle, Dianne Birney, Shawn and Kelly, of Oshawa. Mrs. Pauline Storks attended attended a finance and personnel meeting of the Ganaraska last Wednesday. Mrs. Wilda Johnson and Mrs. Pauline Storks enjoyed La Cage Aux Folles at the O'Keefe Centre last Tuesday evening. Mr. Dean Friedlander, Olga, and Jason returned Thursday nilght from an East Coast motor trip where they visited cousin Candy Storks at Kentville, Nova Scotia. Thursday night they were guests of his mother, Mrs. Raye Friedlander. We extend sympathy to Mrs. Elizabeth Skeldlng on the death of her brother Bill Arch of Streetsville. Elizabeth spent last Monday through Thursday in Streetsville and attended the funeral. Week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hope and family was Mrs. Joan Skelding of Niagara Falls. Daughter Linda Vaicius and her daughter Allison of St. Catharines were week-end visitors with grandmother Elizabeth Skelding. Joan also visited her mother-in-law. Mr, and Mrs. Jim Stephenson Stephenson and family moved this month from their home east of the village to a farm east of Kirby. Last Thursday their barn burned down. NEWCASTLE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY SUMMER SHOW President Vicki Lesnick and executive are to be congratulated congratulated on the fine summer show held at the Newcastle Community Community Hall on Thursday, August 22, 1985. Among the 35 adult exhibitors were 6 new exhibitors and in the Junior Section, so capably led by Narda Hoogkamp, were 72 Juniors aged 5 to 10 years and 38 in the age group 11 and over. Mrs. Petril of the Pine Ridge Society was Judge for the day. We extend congratulations to Donna Morrow who won the J. Anderson Smith Memorial prize for the most points in the show and also the silver cup for the most points in the flower section. Betty Blaker won the Wylma Allin Award for the most points in the vegetable vegetable section. Meryl McGrath won the new exhibitor award and Martin McGrath won most points as a new exhibitor in the vegetable section. The Sweepstakes were awarded to Madeleine Buck- ley for the Grand Champion Aster, Helen Hobbs for the Grand Champion Dahlia, Donna Morrow for the Grand Champion Gladiolus, Fred Couch for the Grand Champion Champion Rose and to Pat Blaker for the Grand Champion Zinnia. ANGLICAN NEWS On Sunday, August 25, 1985 at St. George's Anglican Church, Rev. Allan Haldenby delivered his farewell sermon on Love and Peace. Flowers on the altar were placed by Mrs. Doreen Lake in loving memory of her husband William William Lake and his parents. Lay Readers Oakley Peters and Gordon Leek assisted Rev. Haldenby and Mrs. Haldenby presided at the organ. At the close of the Service Pat Blaker spoke fond words of farewell to Allan and Grace, wishing them happiness happiness in retirement. Following the service, lunch was served to those who attended from St. Saviour's and St. George's. The Reverend James M. Small assumes the responsibilities responsibilities as Rector of St. George's Church, Newcastle, arid St. Saviour's in Orono, as of September September 1st, 1985. Mr. Small, a graduate of Wycliffe College, has served in the Diocese of Toronto since Ordination in 1966 - in Islington, Islington, Bay Ridges, Newmarket and Mono Mills. He served on several committees of the Diocese while a member of the Board of Parish Services. More recently, he was a member, then Chairman, of the Diocesan Committee on the Church and Scouting; and was appointed by the Programme Programme Board of General Synod as the liaison person between the Anglican Church and Boy Scouts of Canada.
